now. Gone. Dead. We need to get out of here alive and that means leaving one of your boy toys behind. Period.”
I stomped over to her, closing the distance between us until I was in her face, my nose almost touching hers. “You listen up. Llyr is gone and with him so is this little power trip you’re on. We’re getting Kai out of here and that’s the end of the fucking story. We ARE doing this. Are you in or not?”
Pearl rolled her eyes and looked out to the hallway. “Fine. Whatever.”
“Maybe you need to recharge,” I heard Caspian say, his dark velvety voice spindled through me. I knew what that meant. And I needed it now more than ever.
“That would help,” I replied, turning away from Pearl and walking over to Caspian. His irises darkened as I approached, and before I could make a move, he had me in his arms and pinned against the nearest wall. He leaned down with that one-sided grin on his face before claiming my mouth with his own. His lips were cold, but they met my warmth and my cells began to wake up and reenergize once again.
Despite having only just freed us, despite being bone-tired, despite needing to grieve and a million other things, this was what I wanted. I wanted to feel Caspian’s hands on me, feel like we were normal for just a moment.
I sank into the kiss, enjoying the break from pain and despair. I also drank deeply of his life-force. Mild concern for his remaining strength washed through me, but with the way his dick was grinding into me I thought he might be okay.
“Oh, my gods. I’m right here. You two are so disgusting.”
I wanted to retort that it was rich coming from the woman I’d walked in on banging my brother half a dozen times, but I didn’t have the room beneath Caspian’s mouth. Caspian didn’t even flinch at her words. In fact, he only revved up his lust-filled attack on me, pressing all of himself into me, grinding and rocking his hips into mine. By the time he was done, I was fully recharged and ready to go. He pulled back with a smug grin on his face. “You’re welcome,” He said and slapped my ass.
Pearl was triple-disgusted as he turned around. Caspian winked at her. I choked back a laugh.
“Gods, put that thing away.”
I stood up taller and squared off my shoulders. “I’m at full power now. So, there’s that. Now, let’s go get Kai.”
“Fuck that. You are going to do nothing but run in there and get all of your people killed. I won’t be one of them. I’m going to get out of here with my life, unlike you.”
“What the hell? What, does she want to die?” I almost yelled, but didn't want to tip off the guards.
“Calm the fuck down, Zaniah. Think about this. Don’t be a moron. We can use this to our advantage,” Caspian shook my shoulder while he spoke.
“No, we can’t just let her leave.” I began to march toward the door, intent on getting Pearl back and making her come to her senses, which wasn’t saying much.
Caspian stopped me with his hand on my shoulder. “Wait, Zaniah. Just fucking wait and watch.”
It was only seconds before I heard the guards coming in our direction. They were yelling and screaming and some kind of siren was blaring in the distance.
Pearl had been caught.
“She wasn’t thinking. That’s what desperation will do to you. Think slow, Zaniah and we can get the fuck out of this place.”
We waited with bated breaths for the guards to all run past us, unaware that we’d all broken out—that Pearl wasn’t the only one on the loose.
“Okay, let’s go,” Caspian whispered. We walked out of the room and I took a deep breath, only to be punished for it. The whole place smelled of rotting flesh and dead fish. I looked in each direction down those dark hallways, but realized we’d stepped out of one pile of shark shit and into the next.
“Where the fuck do we go? Where’s she keeping Kai?” Again, I was desperate, but the guards were busy, so we had to do something and do it fucking now.
“Look, there’s blood,” Caspian said and pointed at the ground. Scarlet spots pockmarked the cement floor. We followed the spots until we came upon a room, much like the other one we were being kept in.
Guarded by only one fucking Siren.
Just one.
