or his time with Aliz before he was put in another torturous situation. I would have to take that man on a vacation. Or to a spa. Or have marathon sex. Something.
“Yeah, you sound fucking fine,” Pearl shout-whispered, struggling against her own bindings. During the course of this, I was sure she did it on purpose. Wore herself out to the point of unconsciousness just for a chance of relief. Freedom from the pain if only for a moment.
“Let’s stop harping on about our pain and find a way to fucking end it,” Caspian said, his jaw clenched. His eyes were more yellow than ever despite his transition.
“What the fuck are we supposed to do?” I asked, tipping my chin toward the guards, Sirens armed with spears and harpoons paced back and forth, in front of our room. Even the sounds of their feet slapping against the cold floor didn’t give us a break.
Raven was torturing us, even when she wasn’t here.
When she was, there were beatings. Sometimes she watched, sometimes she participated. We all showed signs of wear and I’d tasted my own blood more in the last day or so than I had in my life.
“I don’t know. But we have to do something. I have a feeling that she’s going to get bored of all of this torture in a few days and we’ll be beached on the sand before we can fight back.” Caspian always looked on the bright side of things.
“You three are so fucking stupid. It’s just over. Accept your fates, bitches. We’re as useless as a tit on a seahorse. It’s done.”
“Shut up. You’re just pissed because you lost your dick of the week,” Caspian spat back, not taking her shit. Still, we all knew where it was coming from. She and I had lost someone just days ago and hadn’t had a chance to properly grieve. You know, cause we were getting tortured.
“Just think of something,” Kai said. As soon as the words left his mouth, the bitch goddess herself walked in. She had on a sparkly red dress as though she were going to the prom. One always must look their best when walking into a torture session featuring her favorite people to hate. As she moved her hair over one shoulder, I noticed the Trident. She always had it in her hand lately and used it to her advantage.
“Oh no, Kai, go on. What were you talking about? Not me, right? I mean, I hope it wasn’t about me. I would hate to think that you four were conspiring to try and break free. I mean, I don’t know how you would even begin to carry that out, but perhaps that was what you were discussing?” As she spoke she sidled up to Kai and ran her finger down his chest, but stopped at one of his wounds and bent her knuckle so that the point of her manicured nail would go right into it. I kicked my tail and wrestled with my chains, but it was no use and my reaction just fueled her fire.
“What’s the matter, Zaniah? You act like you’re in a torture chamber or something. Oh, wait, you are. Well it’s no wonder you’re trying to get out. But you and I both know that it’s silly to even try, right? We’d hunt you down and have you skewered before you could even shift back to your legs. Speaking of, damn that’s got to hurt.” She pointed the Trident at my legs just as a new jet of saltwater sprayed down from the metal hoses attached to the ceiling.
She cackled long and hard as the water came down. She waited like that, just laughing at our pain and letting the droplets trail down her face, eyeing each of us like she was waiting for something.
I wished like hell that I hadn’t been right.
Raven took the Trident, and with that sinister smile on her face, lifted it to the water. A soon as the Trident hit the stream, a bolt of electricity pulsed through all of us at once, singing my veins and burning up my cells until every part of me felt like I was on fire. My eyes finally opened again, but the rest of my people didn’t seem like they were fazed at all.
I thought the jolt would leave me injured and weak, but instead, I felt a new surge of energy come through me all at once. Like I felt just after a
