broke away from Lita. She saw Abby, started to tear up and went over to her.
I hugged the band as they hugged me.
“Congrats,” I said.
“I can’t believe I’m married,” Nash said.
“I can’t believe I’m married,” Jay said.
“You’ve been married for a while,” Reed said.
“You don’t even belong here,” Dex said. “Shane should have been up there instead of you.”
“I thought he and Lita were just fucking around?” Jay asked with a wink.
“I always knew I was going to marry Bree,” Sab said.
“That makes me want to throw up,” Dex said.
“Fuck you,” Sab said.
“Hey,” I said. “Thanks for inviting us.”
“You’re part of the band for life,” Jay said. “Just like Linx.”
“You know I’m not sticking around, right?” I asked.
“You’re going to miss one hell of a party,” Reed said.
I looked back at Lita. “It’s worth it.”
“Be careful out there,” Nash said. “Watch out for Santa and his sleigh.”
“I can’t wait to empty my big sack tonight,” Jay said.
“I knew he was going to fucking say that,” Sab said.
“How many times did he say it tonight?” Nash asked.
“I’ll put fifty bucks on at least ten times,” I said.
“Ten?” Reed asked. “He’ll say that joke ten times before we even get to eat.”
“What?” Jay asked. “It’s a good joke. I have a big sack. And I’m going to empty it. Tonight. Into Wren.”
“We get it, Jay,” Nash said.
“You guys have fun with that,” I said. “Congrats again.”
“Don’t be gone too long,” Dex said. “Studio. Next week. Be there.”
“I’ll be there,” I said.
I walked toward Lita as she walked toward me.
Now it was time for the surprise of her life.
“Why are we leaving the wedding?” Lita asked.
“You’ll see,” I said.
We got into the SUV I rented and I drove.
But not too far.
Just to the airport.
A small airport, where the band had hooked me up with a private jet.
Lita looked at me. “Shane…?”
“You’re not afraid to fly, are you?” I asked.
“I’m afraid of surprises.”
“Too bad, beauty. Let’s go. We have a plane to catch.”
“To where?” Lita asked.
“You’ll see.”
It was a quick flight, but it would have been a hell of a drive.
The plane touched down thirty minutes from where we were staying.
There was another SUV waiting for us.
Again, one I rented.
I had to admit it was really cool to be hooked up with a band like Filthy Line.
They were able to help me arrange all these plans last minute.
I walked Lita to the SUV and then drove the thirty minutes to a cabin hidden in the woods.
The best part was the look on her face as we slowly climbed up the mountain to get to the cabin.
The air was cold.
Very cold.
And when she saw snow on the ground and on the trees…
“Shane,” she said.
“Not yet, Lita,” I said. “Hold it in.”
“Shane…”
I carefully drove up to the cabin.
I parked the SUV.
“I had some stuff packed and put in the other SUV. That stuff was loaded on the plane without you knowing. And it’s in the back now. Just bags. Clothes and stuff. We’re staying here for a few nights. Just you and me, Lita. It’s cold. It’s snowy. It’ll probably snow again. Come on…”
I got out of the SUV and walked around to her door.
She stepped out and looked around.
She shivered.
“I’m freezing,” she said.
“Let’s get inside and warm you up.”
I walked her to the door and found the key under the mat.
Everything was already arranged.
I had it so there was a fire in the fireplace and fresh hot chocolate simmering.
When I opened the door and Lita saw the giant Christmas tree, all lit up, she let out a gasp and covered her mouth.
“We have beds, blankets, hoodies, and nothing but time up here, Lita,” I said. “You wanted a real Christmas, right? You wanted to see snow. You wanted to have the tree and the lights…”
“How did you do this?” she asked.
“That doesn’t matter,” I said. I wrapped my arms around her. “I love you, Lita. Merry Christmas.”
She put her head back to my chest and smiled while looking at the glow of the fireplace and the glow of the different colored lights.
“I love you too, Shane,” she said. “This changes the entire relationship now. I can’t tell everyone we’re just fooling around anymore. This is really romantic.”
“Sorry about that,” I said.
“You can make it up to me,” she said.
“How?”
Lita turned her head and smiled at me. “Put a pile of blankets in front of the tree and fuck me.”
Lita pushed away from me and reached back and unzipped her black dress and slowly stripped it down her body and off. Next came her strapless bra. Then came her black thong.
I took a deep breath and smiled.
Maybe Christmas wasn’t all that bad after all.
Do you really think I’m done here darlin’?
