me from where he laid in the bed. Shirtless. Oh, sweet Christ. I looked down at my outfit and grabbed my jeans, pulling them on in a fast movement.
“You may want to take the back exit,” he pointed out softly.
My head snapped up and I frowned. “Why?”
“I think you may be being tracked,” Adrian drawled, “I came upstairs but Rhys informed me that at least four to five men were looking for you?”
I groaned, tugging up my hair and my sweater, not bothering to give him back his shirt. I looked around for my shoes and then he was there, offering me my boots. I slipped them on and looked back up at him.
“Why do I feel like this was a one night stand?” I asked bluntly.
He chuckled softly and tugged me closer before brushing his nose against mine, “It will never be just a one night stand between us.” I hummed softly as my breath caught, overwhelmed by him being into me honestly. Like this wasn’t a guy my age, it was becoming very clear that Adrian was in a different league and I was one hundred ready to play if he was, despite my nervousness. “Let me walk you downstairs.”
“Okay,” I whispered nodding.
He pulled on a sweatshirt and intertwined our hands. His voice was quiet as he neared the elevator and I knew I only had moments of this sweetness left. “Come back this weekend.”
I searched his expression and nodded. “If you’re sure.”
Something occurred to him and he stopped me from getting on the elevator, walking over to a small cabinet. I watched as he pulled out a delicate necklace that had a crimson droplet at the end of a ruby. He walked over and placed it around my neck speaking quietly, “Don’t take this off. It’s glamoured. If you need me just hold it and think about me.”
I nodded softly as we began our descent downstairs. I could feel the shift as Adrian turned into something else, something that wasn’t the sweet man I’d woken up with. My eyes examined the empty club as the doors opened and I didn’t even realize we were still holding hands until Adrian tightened them. I nearly groaned as I saw some very familiar men.
“Lia?” Koa asked softly.
“What the fuck?” Rain bit out, looking exhausted, and at our intertwined hand. I didn’t remove my hand from his though. I had enough problems to worry about, I wasn’t about to start hiding my emotions.
I narrowed my eyes, “Rain. You seem in a good mood.”
“Get the fuck away from her,” Bard demanded and I muttered a curse as he tugged me from Adrian. The vampire let out a dark chuckle as Rhys, who I hadn’t seen before, stood up making an annoyed sound.
“Bard, it’s fine,” I whispered as he made a frustrated noise.
“Why the hell did you leave town?” Oliver demanded as Rain shook his head.
Merrick was silently watching me and I wondered where Kirin was. I missed him. Ah. That is a problem.
I narrowed my eyes as he moved closer, “I don’t need to explain myself to you. I needed a night off.”
“You fucking left town and got drunk, passing out in some vampire’s fucking condo!” Rain snarled. I flipped him off as a wicked glint entered his eyes. I think he liked me more when I was angry at him. Can we say healthy?
“I’m not dealing with this,” I turned on my heel walking towards the door. “I’ll see you two this weekend!”
“Like hell, you will!” someone bit out. Rhy’s deep chuckle had me smiling as I left the building.
I cringed as the Kansas City spring air hit me in the face and I reached into my jeans pocket finding my ID and keys. I could hear arguing behind me and I ignored the valet offer and instead walked towards the parking garage. My eyes narrowed on my car and I inhaled sharply, I just had to make it to the goddamn car.
“Princess,” Oliver growled tugging on my hand. I turned and my breath caught at the concern in his intense green eyes.
“What?”
“What? I was fucking worried about you!” he rumbled stepping forward so that we were chest to chest.
I twisted my lips slightly feeling exhausted. “I didn’t mean to worry you. I needed the night off. I go here often, like every weekend.”
“You sleep at his fucking place every weekend?” Bard demanded sharply.
“Yes,” I whispered annoyed with his words, “something you would know if we had actually hung out.”
Bard hissed
