Wrapped in Chains - Nicola Jane Page 0,8
is your life, Leia. You love the club and it makes sense for you to marry into the club. It’s what your dad would have wanted.”
I hate it when she throws that at me. “But not what Riggs wants. Besides, I want to be a nurse, Mum. I want to have fun with my friends. I have plenty of time to settle down, but that’s damn near impossible with Riggs constantly breathing down my neck and preventing me from meeting anyone inside or outside of this damn club.”
“Riggs would happily let you settle with a member from another charter,” she argues. “And he knows what’s best for you. He doesn’t want you settling for the wrong type.”
“I don’t even know what’s best for me, so how does he know? And in case you haven’t noticed, his life is messed up, so he really can’t guide me along my path.” I take a breath. “Look, I know you and Dad were happy and I’m glad for you, but it doesn’t mean this life is for everyone.”
“What does that mean?” she demands.
“It means that I want to meet a man who’s nothing to do with the MC. The sooner you face that, the better.”
“Is the MC not good enough for you, Leia?” asks Chains.
I glare at his hand as it strokes up and down Anita’s back and it’s like a physical pain in my chest, which is ridiculous—I kissed him once and I was drunk. “There’s nothing wrong with Leia waiting for a hunky doctor to sweep her off her feet,” Eva butts in.
“That’s what you’re looking for?” asks Chains, his eyes burning into me.
“Why are you all so focussed on my life,” I snap, getting to my feet. “I’m nineteen years old and I’ll do what I like. You all need to back off.”
I almost crash into Anna as I stomp through the club. “Anna,” I gasp. “Everything okay?”
She nods and smiles. “I came to see your brother,” she mutters. “He called. He wants to talk.”
“Hey, that's great news.” I smile. Perhaps he took on board what I said last night.
“Maybe. I’m not just gonna smile and let him charm his way back in. He’s been an ass and I’m not gonna make it easy for him to be in my life. Obviously, he can see the baby.” She shakes her head. “Sorry, thinking out loud.”
“I know you’re hurt, but he’s just scared. Hear him out first.”
“Leia, we need to talk,” comes Chains’ voice. I roll my eyes.
“Will it take long?” I ask and sigh.
“Stop being a fuckin’ brat,” he growls. “Get moving.” He shoves me towards the stairs, then we go into my room. “Why did you tell Riggs that you kissed Vinn? You know how that makes me look?”
“Don’t be so dramatic. I covered you well. I told him it was my fault. Besides, did you see Anna downstairs? They’re gonna talk. That's a good thing, right?”
“It’s good that you’re setting your sights away from this place. Not with Vinn,” he adds quickly. “A doctor or whatever it is you want.”
“My mum doesn’t think so,” I mumble. “Shouldn’t all mums want their kids to find a good husband?”
“I guess,” he mutters. “I don’t know.”
“I don’t want to get married and still be a fucking virgin,” I groan, dropping onto my bed.
Chains backs towards the door. “I don’t need to discuss shit like that with you.”
I smirk. I love it when I make the guys uncomfortable. Dropping the odd period comment or mentioning the V word sends them into an embarrassed frenzy. “Maybe Vinn can help with that part?” I’m teasing, and I regret it a second later when Chains’ face is in mine.
“You fuckin’ promised to steer clear of him, Leia,” he growls. “I’ll slit his throat if he lays one finger on you, I swear!”
“Back the fuck off,” I hiss. Who the hell does he think he is, growling in my face like a rabid dog? “I was kidding.”
His face softens slightly in relief. “Well, don’t joke about stuff like that.”
“Leia, are you in here . . . ” Jade stops in my doorway and her eyes dart between me and Chains, who’s still very close to me. “Hi.”
“Hey, come in.” I smile and Chains moves away.
Once he’s gone, I let out a breath. “Christ, that man is hot,” she whispers, fanning her face with her hand.
“I kissed him,” I blurt out and her eyes widen. “I lunged at him and planted a full-on kiss on his mouth.
