Technical Threat (Westin Force #4) - Julie Trettel Page 0,95
has called you his Cinderella, now you’re going to look the part.”
I laughed. “I’m no Cinderella.”
She shrugged. “Well, you can look like her one night, give him his fantasy. I’m sure it’ll pay off in the bedroom afterwards.”
“Nonna!” My cheeks were burning in embarrassment.
“I may not have been able to have pups of my own, but I assure you it wasn’t for lack of trying!”
“So, this is another ploy to get those great-grandpups?”
“Well, I’m not getting any younger.”
I shook my head. “Thank you for the dress.”
I knew I was stuck now. There was no way I was getting out of that ball. Nonna would see to that, but then maybe it wouldn’t be too bad. A night out with my Prince Charming.
“Well, come on and change before we’re late. Tonight’s your big night.”
I checked the time. “Oh shoot. We have to run.”
I changed quickly and rushed Nonna out to my car. We made the short drive over to the new house. When I pulled up and stopped, I sat there for a moment just staring at it.
My house. The home Tarron and I had designed together and would grow old and raise our pups and grandpups. Maybe someday I’d even be lucky enough to have great-grandpups too. I didn’t think I could so unabashedly harass my grandkids for that the way Nonna did, but it put a smile on my face to think about.
I got out of the car, excited for the future we were truly beginning together.
Everyone was waiting inside.
“There you are. I thought you were getting cold feet,” Tarron teased.
He grabbed my hand and pulled me into a searing kiss. The crowded room cheered him on.
Christine Canine was the assistant to Liam Westin, Kyle’s brother. He was CEO of the Westin Foundation that handled all Pack finances amongst other things. She smiled and motioned for us to meet her at the big kitchen island where the paperwork was already laid out.
“Liam and Maddie wanted me to tell you congratulations and apologize they couldn’t be here tonight.”
I shrugged. “I imagine they have their hands full with the new baby.”
She grinned. “He’s a colicky little thing and giving them a run for their money. I warned them they got off easy with Oscar and Sarah.”
“And this is why we’re good at two, right Kels?” Kyle teased.
She started to protest, but he kissed her silent.
Christine showed us where to sign and just like that it was done. We were homeowners.
It felt like everyone had come out to help us celebrate. All of our Force family, even Archie was there, Patrick and Elise, Kyle and Kelsey, my sisters, and of course Nonna. It was amazing how quickly my life had changed but looking around at all the people I now knew and loved, it truly felt like I was finally home.
Later that night the others left and only Kyle and his family and of course Sage remained we sat out on the back deck overlooking the beautiful lake lit only by the moon with a small fire in the firepit. It was so peaceful.
We were just talking and their son, Zander ran over with his little brother Jason in tow.
“Mama, can you make this leaf dance for Jason?”
Kelsey laughed. “Sure, hand it here.”
Her boys lit up as they passed her a large leaf. Kelsey waved her hand, and the leaf lifted into the sky, and truly appeared to dance in the firelight as the boys clapped and cheered her on.
Kyle looked relaxed next to her as if this was an everyday occurrence to him.
“You’re a witch?” I blurted out.
The leaf faltered and then fell right into the firepit.
“Oops, sorry,” I said.
“It’s okay. It’s not exactly a secret around here,” Kelsey said.
“I told you about her, remember?” Tarron said.
“You told me you knew a witch. You didn’t mention it was Kelsey!” If he had, I hadn’t put it all together before now.
I was so excited. “Sage, come out here, quickly,” I yelled.
I moved to sit on the couch next to Kelsey. “You have no idea how much this means to us.”
“That I’m a witch?”
Sage walked out at exactly that moment. “You are? You’re really a witch?”
“How did you two live in my territory all these months and not know this?” Kyle teased. “We don’t hide the fact that my mate is not only a witch but an Alpha she-wolf. She chooses not to control the Pack, but even I’m well aware she is the most powerful wolf maybe to have ever existed.”
