voice as she confessed it.
“Well, I guess that makes sense on why you want us to move to California then. You could have just started with that.”
“I thought you knew,” she said.
“I knew he was your mate, but not that you had actually mated him,” she pointed out. “Big difference.”
“I’m not so sure about that. I think we would be having the same discussion either way,” she admitted.
“What’s the wolf pack like?” Sapphire asked.
“It’s nice. San Marco is a small town, the kind where everyone knows everyone. I technically live at the Lodge just outside pack lines, but I’ve been looking at houses within territory and already have the Alpha’s permission to buy or build there. We get a few humans from time to time, but the isolated location with one road up and down the mountain means it’s rare to get people just passing through.”
“So it’s another small town?” Sage asked sounding disappointed.
“A thousand or more I’d say. Only the Alpha knows for sure. At the base of our mountain is a significantly larger human city.”
“And it’s all shifters?” Sapphire asked.
“Yup. The majority are wolves of course, but Westin Force doesn’t discriminate, and we have a variety of shifter types that live there now, and work at the base there. It’s one of five bases now worldwide. Since San Marco is base 1, the start of it all, it’s the largest. There’s a significant mole population too.”
“Moles? Like mole shifters?” Sapphire asked.
“Exactly.”
“Are there other fox shifters there?” Sage asked.
I shrugged. “Not that I’m aware of, but it’s possible.”
“But we don’t need to hide what we are?” she pressed.
I smiled. “No, not there. In fact, it’s not uncommon to see a wolf walking around town in his fur.”
“Cool. Will they care that we’re foxes?”
“Nah. It’s cool. Wait, does this mean you want to come with us?” I asked Sage.
“Only if Sapphire can come too.”
I looked over at Susan who was nibbling on her bottom lip.
“This will make you happy?” I asked her.
Her eyes widened and she quickly nodded her head. “I know you didn’t sign on for a package deal, and I don’t even know if it’s possible, but yes, it would make me very happy.”
“How fast can everyone pack? I have to report in Monday morning bright and early. That gives us three days to pack and make the drive. It took me two days to get here with Nonna stopping every hour. If that’s too fast, I’ll have to fly back with Nonna, and then make arrangements to return, and drive you girls back.”
“Or we could road trip back without you,” Sapphire said. “Could be a fun sisters’ trip.”
A growl escaped me. My fox did not like the thought of the girls alone on those long stretch of roads. A dozen worst-case scenarios popped into my thoughts. I shook my head.
Susan smirked like she could feel my distress. I could already feel her emotions, so it shouldn’t have surprised me so much.
Sapphire rolled her eyes. “We’ll be ready.”
“I have a test on Monday, so I am happy to move this weekend.”
“Sage!” Sapphire and Susan exclaimed at the same time before laughing.
There was a new lightness in my mate suddenly, where it had felt like she had been carrying the weight of the world before talking to her sisters, and really, since the first moment we met. If having her sisters with her gave her that, then I would gladly welcome both girls into our home.
I started making a list in my head with all the things I would need to do to make this work. I had to buy a house. There was no way around this. The four of us couldn’t live in my apartment at the Lodge. I could probably get a second room temporarily, but the truth is, I had been wanting to move out for a while now.
Living at the Lodge had been fun for a while. It had been a good bonding experience even with the guys, but Grant and Taylor were rarely there. Ben had never really lived there. When he joined the Force, he was newly mated, and they immediately set up residence in the territory. Baine had recently reconnected with the love of his life who also turned out to be his true mate. He hadn’t known it, but she had been a teen mom with his daughter. Macie was as much of a spitfire as Nonna. And Painter had made a recent announcement that he was also looking for
