suit is covered in dirt and debris, she looks okay. Better than okay: unscathed, and even maybe a little pumped up coming off her mission.
“What happened here today?” the reporter asks, shoving a microphone in Joy’s face.
“It appears a villain known as Fuego set off a firebomb in the middle of the street,” Girl Power states, voice calm and collected. “He’s been known to use this power in previous crimes, escaping during the chaos that always ensues.” The screen cuts away to earlier footage, showing Girl Power lifting an entire CTA bus up over her head and out of the sinkhole. Holy shit!
“Girl Power, this is one of your first official rescues as part of Warrior Nation,” the reporter states. “How are you feeling?”
Joy smiles, her pearly whites beaming below her mask. “While I am disturbed by what took place here today, I’m proud to be part of this team, and I’m confident we’ll be able to stop this siege.”
Yes! She nailed it! None of that fear that plagued her last night. I knew she could do it, I knew it! I feel so proud, I instantly want to call her, to make sure she’s okay, but before I can, a calendar reminder goes off in my phone.
Warrior Nation charity event, 7:00 p.m.
Oh, right, while Teddy wasn’t looking, I uploaded the official Warrior Nation social calendar to my own personal account so I could invite myself to any cool events that I knew he’d fail to mention. This is perfect! I’ll show up tonight, giving myself the chance to check on Joy and congratulate her on her victory today.
And by congratulate, I mean make out with her furiously.
Girl Power Sweeping Chicago
Get it, Girl! With a recent crime surge in Chicago, Girl Power has become a regular figure in the community, swooping in to save the day time and time again. Her recent rescue during a Michigan Ave attack has shot her star to meteoric status, with a receptive audience clamoring to know more about the woman behind the mask.
“I just love her!” exclaimed feminist blogger Katy Bloom. “She’s showcasing the kind of power and strength that really packs a punch. That image of her lifting a bus over her head? ICONIC!”
While she’s only been part of the Chicago chapter for a short time, Girl Power is already in high demand, as several prominent designers are itching to have her rep their brands. Images of her with the bus are being plastered on everything from T-shirts to stickers, and cosplay companies have already been selling out of her signature hero suit, a blue bodysuit with rose-gold triangle accents and accessories that allow any wearer to feel empowered.
“I just want to do a good job and help people,” said Girl Power in a recent interview. “I wasn’t looking to be a role model, but I’m honored to be bringing people joy.”
With so much attention on this hot young star, it would not be surprising if she begins to outshine Warrior Nation’s current poster child, Vaporizer.
@TruWarriorGrrl
uh excuse you but no one will ever top Vaporizer. I’m all for girl power but like let’s calm down
@NeverCeaseNeverSour
you are, like, a disgrace to feminism
@TruWarriorGrrl
eye roll all I’m saying is that Vaporizer is ESTABLISHED and Girl Power has been on the scene for like 5 seconds. Let’s see what she can really do before we call her an icon
@GirlPowerSparksJoy
love all of this! Girl Power is my new all-time fave! She is everything!
IT’S BEEN A LONG TIME SINCE I’VE BEEN OUT by myself. Or even gone out, period. There’s not a huge paparazzi scene in Chicago, but Matt’s smile never met a smartphone he didn’t like. Showing up for a movie and having girls claw at your boyfriend while you’re standing in line for popcorn gets old fast, so by the end, our limited time together consisted of exclusive showings and backdoor entrances. Even going out to grab a coffee on my own was often met with someone secretly recording me, and trying to act nonchalant about it was totally exhausting. Staying home became easier, and while I’m all for snuggling up on the couch, sometimes you have to force yourself to experience the world.
But you don’t have to do THIS, nags the voice in my head. Warrior Nation charity events have never exactly been my favorite outings, since they usually unravel into war stories and shop talk as the night goes on. Still, I feel personally connected to tonight’s gala, an auction benefiting arts education in Chicago
