living area from the kitchen.
She stopped next to him as he put one hand on each knob and pushed the doors open.
Wyatt grinned, clearly aware of the cameras on them. “I’m totally carrying you over this threshold too.”
Madi laughed then squealed as he scooped her up into his arms. “As long as you don’t drop me.”
“Never.”
The serious tone of his voice made her look more closely at him. The expression on his face and in his eyes matched his voice. Once all the way inside, he set her down.
Madi thought he might kiss her, but instead winked with the eye the cameras couldn’t see.
He turned and closed both doors. She was almost certain he’d waggled his brows at them.
The first thing they both did was make sure their microphones were off.
Then Madi turned to look around the room.
The king-sized bed dominated one wall, with dark wood nightstands on either side. The deep navy tufted headboard matched the plush comforter. The rest of the room complemented it.
“You know we both need to sleep in here, right?” Wyatt’s quiet voice made her turn.
“I know.”
“Under slightly different circumstances, I’d suggest staying in separate rooms for a while, but I don’t think that’s a good idea with the cameras and everything.”
Madi walked through an arched opening into a sitting area and took a seat on the over-stuffed chair. “I agree.” She toed her shoes off and put her feet up on the matching ottoman. “But at least there are no microphones and cameras in here.”
Wyatt sat in the recliner and flipped the footrest out. “As soon as this is over, I need to thank Mama Beach for that.”
“I already did. She then informed me we can’t stay in here the whole time.” Madi gave him a small smile as the ache in her feet intensified.
He chuckled. “I figured as much. At least we have a good kitchen.”
“I don’t cook much,” she told him. “I’m capable. I just don’t like to.”
“Then I’ll cook. Can we make the menu and grocery list together?”
“Sure. I definitely like to eat, which means I’m glad there’s a gym setup downstairs.”
“I required it in my contract. It might be the beginning of the off-season, and I don’t necessarily need intense workouts, but I can’t slack off entirely either.”
Madi closed her eyes and remembered the feel of his pectoral muscles under her hands when she almost fell and his bicep as her fingers curled around it to walk back up the aisle. He definitely worked out more than she did.
“What else do we need to check on to set up house?”
“Make sure all of our things are here. I need to make sure I have my laptop and research materials. They were supposed to be brought over, but I haven’t seen them yet. I do have work to do while we’re here. Promotion for the movie because it comes out pretty much as soon as we’re done here. Plus getting ready for my brother’s wedding and the release party. I also have a book to write.”
“I have work I need to get done, too, besides a daily work out.” He yawned. “I usually take three or four weeks off before doing much, but that’s about up. I’ll work with the Crimson Knight’s trainer via video chat a couple of days a week and on my own a couple.”
As he yawned again, Madi found herself yawning along with him. “I think we’re both ready to get to bed.”
“I saw a hot tub outside if we want to try that or there’s a Jacuzzi tub in the bathroom. If we go outside, there are cameras. If we stay here, it’s a lot smaller, and I doubt we’d both want to get in. If you want to, go ahead.”
“That sounds really nice,” Madi admitted. “Are you sure you don’t mind?”
Wyatt shook his head. “Not a bit. There’s a television with several remotes. Surely, I can find something to watch. Do you mind if I take a quick shower first?”
“Go for it.”
A few minutes later, as Wyatt took his own shower, Madi started to unpack her suitcase in the built-in dresser in the closet. When she hadn’t seen a dresser in the master bedroom, she’d wondered why. Then she found the closet and understood. They didn’t need anything in the master bedroom, but the bed and side tables or anything they wanted for decoration. The fireplace was an amazing bonus.
It needed a bookcase. Was there one somewhere else in the house they could move in
