The Sinners - Ruby Vincent Page 0,45

out of my skirt. Three days a week I wore my gym clothes on under my uniform and rushed to the dorm to shower after PE. Students were publicly nice to me due to the boys. Sneaking blackmailers, on the other hand, would jump on another chance to snap me with no clothes on.

Sutton said nothing about my public changing room. She didn’t know about Fiona and Remington filming me in the shower, but she did know my brother was beaten and students hissed and snapped at me during PE. She let me be.

“What are we doing today, Coach?” I asked as I stuffed my clothes in my backpack.

“Basketball mini golf.”

I shot up. “Are you serious? But that’s—”

“A Coach Kiki classic,” she said. “Your old coach and I caught up for dinner last weekend and she said this was a favorite. Thought I’d try it out with my students. Did it with the freshmen and juniors already and they are begging for more.”

“Coach Kiki also taught us backwards soccer. Can we do that too?”

She laughed. “Let’s not put too much on an old traditional girl like me. It’s been a tough semester, so we’re doing something fun today. Next class, you kids are on the tennis court and I’m back in my element.”

The other students trickled out of the locker room, filling up the bleachers. Camila was the last out. She dropped next to me.

“Afternoon, seniors. You’re in for a treat today.” Coach motioned with her clipboard. “We’re playing basketball mini golf. As you can see, I set up nine ‘tees’ from where you’ll shoot the ball. The challenge for each tee gets harder as you go. Tee one, you just shoot. Tee two, you shoot wearing sunglasses. Tee three, you shoot on one leg. Tee four, you shoot with one hand. And then on and on until you reach the last tee where you must shoot blindfolded.

“If you make the shot on the first try, or get a hole in one, you receive ten points. If you miss the shot, you try again from where you caught the rebound. You only have to do the challenge for the first shot. Making the shot without the challenge is four points. After five tries and you haven’t sunk the ball, move on to the next and take a zero for that tee. Any questions?”

Remington raised her hand. “Are we doing teams?”

“No teams. This is an individual game. You’ll line up and go through the tees one by one.” She held up a stack of papers. “Use this to keep score.”

“This sounds like fun,” Camila said.

“All right, everybody up,” Coach called. “Line up at the first tee.”

We bounded off the bleachers and shuffled, pushed, and traded spaces to form our line. It wasn’t an unfortunate trick of fate that Brynn and Pomona ended up next to me. Pomona smirked as she sidled up.

“Hey, Ember.”

“Go away.”

She tsked. “Don’t be like that. I just want to chat.”

I fixed my attention on the first boy to tee up. “You and I have nothing to say to each other unless you’ve got a few years’ worth of apologies you want to catch up on.”

“Me apologize to you?” The sickly sweet fled in the wake of disbelief. “For what?”

“Want to start with pushing me in a pond?”

“Ugh. That was forever ago. Move on.”

“Take your own advice and move your ass on. Like I said, we have nothing to say to each other.”

Brynn jumped in. “This is why you have no friends. You’re not very nice.”

“Oh, she has friends.” Pomona stepped into my line of sight. “She and the Angels seem very close.”

Brynn nudged my arm. “How does that work exactly? Do they pass you around? A different bed every night?”

“Do they tag team you? One dick in your mouth. One in your ass. And the other in your pussy?”

These two were really enjoying this.

“Let me see,” I began, grin playing on my lips. “Different bed every night? Pretty much. Do they tag team me? No, but you’re painting a tempting picture.”

Their nasty smirks twitched.

“Is that the price of protection?” Brynn asked. “Were we so horrible you had to become the Angels’ girl?”

“You’re pathetic,” Pomona spat. “You went down on those flea-infested thugs for nothing because they won’t be scaring people for much longer. Pretty soon, the Angels will be back in their OB slum where they be—”

Camila lunged.

Pomona screamed, jerking back as Camila swiped the spot her head had just been in. I grabbed the triplet around
