Saving Blu (Kings Reapers MC #4) - Nicola Jane Page 0,12

a wife?” asks Malia, looking at Blu. Usually, I’d tell her not to be so nosy, but I’m interested in his answer. He shakes his head. “So you don’t have kids?” asks Malia.

“For such a little girl, you sure do ask a lot of questions,” he says, handing baby Willow back to me. “When you’re done here, Creep, I need you upstairs.”

I stare after him as he heads out of the room. My mouth opens and closes like a goldfish, wondering what he could possibly want with me.

When Anna returns, I decide not to rush off after Blu. I don’t want to look like a desperate whore. “Eva said Conner keeps messaging you to go home,” says Anna. I nod as she settles down next to me. “I know you pretend you’re not bothered, but I can see you are,” she continues.

“I was,” I admit. “But not because I really like him, which makes me shallow and pathetic.” I twist my fingers together. “I just thought he’d want more from me once he got to know me. I was kidding myself thinking he liked me more than he wanted to get in with my family.”

“He’s stupid for passing you up,” she says. “Stay here as long as you like or you’ll only fall back into bed with him.”

I nod and smile gratefully. She’s right. I’m weak for his ‘come to bed’ eyes, so it’s best I stay away for a while.

By the time I head up to my room, it’s been a whole hour since Blu said he wanted to see me. I go into my own room and shower, then I grab my book and blanket and head out onto the balcony. Making him wait will make him see the kiss meant nothing and I’m totally not into him at all. Honest.

That’s why, when I step out into the cold, wrapped in my blanket, I’m mortified to see Blu already out on his half of the balcony chatting with Raven. I freeze. If I back up, he might see, and I don’t want him to think I’m bothered, so I take a seat on the chair nearest my door and open my book like I haven’t noticed them.

I stare hard at the words, but I can’t take any of them in. Instead, I listen to how they laugh together. Laugh! He never laughs unless it's at my expense.

I scowl down at my book, focussing so hard on the words that they blend together. Raven’s talking about her injuries and how well she’s healing. Ugh, the sympathy card. She proceeds to show him a scar on her abdomen. I can’t help but stare as he runs a finger over the wound and she shivers involuntarily. They both laugh again and I roll my eyes. After a few minutes, Raven answers a call and then tells Blu she’s gotta go. She smiles over to me. “Bye,” she says, adding a small wave. I grunt a goodbye back and instantly feel bad. I like Raven, so I shouldn’t be such a cow.

“She’s nice, isn’t she,” says Blu, joining me after he’s seen Raven out.

“Delightful,” I say, staring down at my book.

“Your brother has offered her some office work,” he adds.

“Doesn’t surprise me,” I mutter.

“Once she’s off the crutches, she’s gonna go and see him,” he adds.

“Great. I’m actually reading,” I say.

“Really, because your book is upside down,” he says with a smirk.

I knew I preferred Kindle for a bloody good reason. “I have a lot on my mind,” I mutter. “The book was a prop to stop you speaking to me, but here we are,” I add.

Blu crouches down in front of me and takes the book from my hands. “How about I distract you,” he mutters, placing it on the ground and staring into my eyes intensely. My heart skips a beat and begins to thud hard in my chest. “We’re dancing around the issue,” he says, running a finger over my bare knee. “And I’d really like to show you a thing or two,” he says, standing and taking my hand in his. He pulls me to stand too and moves my hair away from my face gently. His eyes twinkle under the moonlight and my breath hitches. “Just a few basic first aid skills that I think you’ll find helpful,” he continues, and as the words penetrate my brain, he smirks.

“It was a silly mistake,” I snap, pulling my hand free from his grasp. “Get over yourself.”

He laughs uncontrollably
