slam right into someone’s chest.
“Fuck!” I shrieked, stumbling backward as I looked up at the bronzed god.
“Zeus,” Cronus growled, murder in his tone.
My eyes widened as I took in the specimen before me. He looked nothing like Cronus. Where Cronus was dark and sharp edged, Zeus was light with blond hair and a soft chin. He was still utterly gorgeous, but not my type. Thunder rolled overhead as Cronus calmly stepped in front of me and went chest to chest with the god of thunder.
“I don’t have time for your petty bullshit right now,” Cronus growled.
Zeus grinned, a maniacal thing that took all the handsomeness from his face. “Thanatos says you want a truce. That you’ve let the nine deadly sins free. I had to come and see for myself.”
His eyes roamed over me and Cronus reached out, grabbing his jaw and jerking his face away from me. “Don’t look at her. I don’t have time for this, boy.” There was a flicker. One second Cronus and Zeus were standing there and the next it was just Cronus.
What the…?
“Where’d he go?” I stumbled after Cronus, stomping across the church garden and into a cemetery.
“Sent him to the underworld for a bit. Hopefully Thanatos can keep him there. By the time he figures out how to leave, we’ll be on to the next stop.”
Shit. Dude could be ruthless when he wanted. It was kind of hot. Okay, it was majorly hot. Hound gave a low howl and then we were standing over two graves. On the headstone was a bunch of symbols that made no sense to me.
“Good boy.” Cronus pet hound behind the ears.
“Yes. Good boy.” I gently tapped his butt.
The beast turned his head around to glare at me so I retracted my fingers. #Asshole #ThisIsWhyIDon’tHaveaDog
“Umm, so about last time. Ya know, when I helped you and then I passed out…”
Cronus’ body went rigid and still. “Yeah, I didn’t think that would happen. You may have absorbed more of Pandora’s power then I originally thought.”
Great. That was not what I wanted to hear.
“Power that helps raise the dead?”
I needed to be hit with it straight.
“With my help and for the Titans only. Yes.”
This was so far removed from my life that the Crab Shack I didn’t even know what to say.
“It’s this or a world war,” Cronus told me.
I sighed. “We’ve already had two world wars. It would be World War Three.”
The god nodded. “Shame I missed those battles stuck in my prison.”
Right. Such a shame. #Not
“Let’s do it.”
Hound had been digging the entire time and now Cronus reached in and came back out with pieces of bone and hair.
God… Bile rose in my throat at the sight of the decayed bodies.
“We’ll be quick. Then we can awaken Hyperion. After that, it should be smooth sailing.”
I nodded. Of course. Easy-peasy.
Cronus got down closer to the pieces of his family and started doing his god thing. I rubbed at my stomach because the wild mushroom soup wasn’t sitting that well in my gut. I didn’t usually get queasy, not from food or even drinking all night. Mild hangover was the most I suffered. I’d thought it was my great metabolism, but maybe it was the minor god genetics I was apparently sporting.
So … this was not something I was used to dealing with. My stomach churned and rumbled. God, please don’t let me vomit on Cronus, or even worse… #StomachFlu #GetTheLysol
“I need your assistance again,” he said, distracting me from my stomach issues.
Shaking it off, striding closer, I attempted to smile. I didn’t look at the bits of Titan. I just stared at Cronus, and that perfect bone structure that should have tipped anyone off to this dude being a god.
“Just touch you again?” I asked, wanting to help him. I’d grown quite fond of the big man. Part of me wondered how I’d cope when our bond was broken. Whenever that happened.
He nodded, sparing me a quick glance from whatever he was doing.
The moment my hand landed on his arm, the necklace burned at my throat and my chest went tight like someone was squeezing it. Ouch.
Heat rushed through me, and I was starting to see that power felt like heat … good to know. The rumbling of my stomach increased, and I forgot about the heat and worried again about the vomiting.
Lifting my free hand, I pressed it to my mouth—Cronus didn’t notice, focused on the resurrection.
“Ah, shit,” I said as the heat and dizziness increased. There was
