my reflection in the mirror. "Oh my God!" There was a huge hickey on the side of my neck. "Why would you do that?" I put my hand over the hickey to hide it.
"I don't know, I'm drunk." He ran his hand through his hair.
I shoved his arm. "Rory, I won't be able to leave the house for like a week."
"Yeah, but you work from home." He raised his eyebrow at me.
"But I still go places."
"You can't be mad at me." He put his hand out. "I'm hurt."
I laughed and picked up the bottle of aloe. I squirted out a small amount of aloe and then gently ran it along the small burn mark on his finger. "Does it still hurt?"
"Now that my distraction is over, yes."
"Well, that should help." I wanted him to confess that he loved me too. But instead he just smiled back at me. "Do you think they heard us?"
"They definitely heard you." He leaned forward and placed a soft kiss against my lips. "You were very, very loud."
I could feel myself blushing. "I can't go out there." I put my hand back over my hickey.
"Are you embarrassed that you're having sex with me?"
I laughed. "No, you're the best thing that's ever happened to me." I swallowed hard. I was completely losing it. When I had been writing the article it almost seemed like I was playing the part of this super cool, confident person. But now I was just me again, saying stupid things like I love you to the sexy guy I only just started dating.
"I thought I wasn't even the best sex you've ever had." He put his elbows on his knees and leaned toward me.
"I may have lied about that."
He smiled at me. "Thank you for taking care of me," he said and looked down at his finger.
"Of course. That's what girlfriends do." I put my hands on his knees.
His lips parted slightly when his eyes met mine. But he didn't need to say anything. I could tell by the way he was looking at me that his ex-girlfriend had never taken care of him. It took every ounce of resolve in me to not repeat saying that I loved him.
"I'm really glad I answered your ad," he said. "And that you said yes."
"Yes to you moving in or yes to being your girlfriend?"
"Both." He pushed himself off the counter and placed a soft kiss against my lips.
Chapter 34
As soon as I walked out of the bathroom I almost screamed. Connor had The Post spread out on the counter and was flipping through the pages. No, no, no! "What are you guys doing?" I said way too loudly.
Jackson looked over at us. "Not banging in the bathroom when you should be entertaining your house guests. You could have at least let us watch."
Connor laughed but didn't look up at us.
I could feel my face turning red. "Do you really want to see Rory naked that badly, Jackson?" I hoped my inappropriate joke would distract them as I inched closer toward the newspaper.
"Um...no, Keira. I've seen Rory naked plenty of times." He smiled at me.
"Okay," Rory said. "That's enough. New group rule. I think that now that Keira and I are official, you guys can't flirt with her anymore."
"I wasn't flirting with her," Jackson said.
"You just implied that you wanted to see her naked."
Jackson laughed. "I've never really seen you jealous before. Is that why you gave her a hickey? To mark your territory?"
Shit. I put my hand on the side of my neck. Connor looked up at me. I could tell he was trying to not look hurt. He gave me a small smile.
"Do you mind if I see that?" I asked, gesturing toward the paper. "One of my friends had an article that was supposed to come out and I wanted to read it."
"Yeah, sure. What section?"
"I don't remember where she said it would be. Could I just see the whole thing real quick?"
Connor gave me a strange look and slid the paper toward me. "What section are your articles posted in, Keira?" he asked while I looked for the editorial section. "I actually bought the paper so we could check out some of your work."
"None of my articles have been picked up ever since you guys moved in. I've been too distracted to write anything good. Plus hanging out with you guys takes up a surprisingly large amount of time. Besides, I don't know how much I like writing for
