remote, I flip back to the correct input and restart the movie with a goofy smile on my face—at least until JT crushes my sugar-plums-dancing dreams.
“You do know he’s going to flip when he finds out about your plan for dealing with Liam, right?”
#Chapter29
My day started like this.
SKITTLES: I have an early Christmas gift for you.
ME: Don’t you know it’s not nice to tease me when I’m too far away to do anything about it?
SKITTLES: What? *shrug emoji* I’m not saying you have to wait to open it.
ME: Um, babe…did you forget I’m in Dallas? A little hard to open it from 1,600 miles away.
SKITTLES: *rolling my eyes*
ME: You know how I feel about making you roll your eyes *smiley face with teeth showing emoji*
SKITTLES: There are days I seriously question how effective your helmet is when you play. But whatevs, don’t distract me—I haven’t had my coffee yet.
ME: Wow *shocked face emoji* You must really love me.
SKITTLES: I do…clearly JT has dropped me one too many times while stunting.
ME: Smartass.
SKITTLES: You love me. But ANYWAY…I have something for you, but it’s FOR YOUR EYES ONLY. I’ll let you figure the logistics on how to make that happen. Now I’m going back to sleep. It’s too early for this. Love you. Miss you.
Needless to say, the pounding I took at practice, the punishing workout in the weight room afterward, and all the media bullshit that comes with bowl games didn’t seem so bad after that.
The issue I’m having now is finding a way to get alone to make it happen. For a normal person, this wouldn’t be a problem. For me? Not so simple.
For one, being in Dallas with the team means I have a roommate. Second, my friends are ridiculously codependent. I swear I get less one-on-one time with my girl when the team is on the road than when we’re home.
Dinner with the team is almost over, and I’m running out of time to come up with a solution if I’m going to make this happen before curfew and I’m forced to have Trav in the room with me. That’s when the biggest pain in my ass himself plops down in the empty seat next to mine.
“You wanna tell me what has my little sis going all savage?” Trav holds his phone in front of my face, showing me his text thread with Kay.
SHORT STACK: If you ever want me to make chili or ANY food for you again, you will give Mase an hour to himself tonight.
SHORT STACK: That INCLUDES the other guys too.
SHORT STACK: *GIF of Stewie narrowing his eyes in the evil eye*
I snort, burying my face in my hand to hide my laughter. I shouldn’t be surprised she has a handle on the situation. She’s my pint-sized badass, that’s for sure. God I love her.
I pick my head up, shooting my best friend a look that says Do you really wanna know? He catches the implication and scoffs in disgust.
“Nope. No way.” He waves his hands in front of his face as if it can block the thoughts from forming. “I don’t want to know anything about your kinky-ass sex life with my sister.” His chair screeches as it scrapes across the floor in his hasty retreat.
I can’t wait to tell Kay about this.
After dinner, a good chunk of the team heads to the lounge the hotel set up as a gaming room for us to use. I put in some time with the guys, getting in on a game of Madden before excusing myself for my room.
There’s a small part of me that still doesn’t trust my teammates—we are a bunch of jock-holes most of the time—so I flip the metal hook that acts as a chain lock on the door.
Laptop in hand, I set it on the desk by the window. As I wait for it to power on, I pull my shirt over my head and drop it to the floor. Kay and I have never done the phone sex thing on any of my past road trips, thanks mostly in part to those aforementioned codependent friends. I’m not positive that’s what this is, but I know she likes to look at my muscles and I am all about giving my girl what she likes.
If it does happen to lead to phone sex…
Kay is the first contact to pop up since we called her before we headed to dinner. I click on it and wait for the call to connect. When
