my brain here. I didn’t know when I walked out my front door today I would be singing for a shit load of people. Never mind scratch that. I’m not singing. You go out there and do your thing. I’ll be right here watching, just like we were at The Lounge.”
We had heard everything from country to rock in the few minutes we’d been here. I had no idea what he was going to sing. He didn’t say anything but continued to listen to the band on stage. This band playing was playing a lot of hard rock which I totally loved but he gave me a look. “I think I’ll change things up and go back to the 90’s” A change of pace was more like it.
“What are you thinking babe?”
He looked at me and began smiling. “I’m not telling you because you won’t go sing with me.”
Before I could make a remark, he was motioned onto stage where he whispered to the guys his song choice. The band began playing ‘Good’ by Better Than Ezra. Ohmigod, I loved this song. Why didn’t he tell me? I glanced at him and when he finally looked, I motioned to ask if I could join him and he waved his hand to me. I ran up the stage and grabbed a microphone. This was way too much fun. The crowd absolutely loved us. When the song ended, it was a good minute or so before I could even hear myself think. This was wild. My adrenaline was pumping. I could feel it coursing through my veins. I remembered why I loved being on stage in the first place.
“Ok, I have an idea. If you don’t like it, we need to decide something else.” He looked at me with his head cocked to the side. “ The guy said you could sing a song or two. What about ‘Broken’, you know the one by Seether. I figure we could slow it down a little since this band just pretty much rocked it out and we just sang that song. Maybe one of the guys could let you play their guitar. It’s just an idea though.”
He grinned from ear to ear. “I love that idea.” The band was just finishing up the last chords of the song and he whispered to someone who was with the band who shook his head yes and grabbed a guitar. Trevor kissed my cheek and grabbed my hand. “You ready baby?”
Ready or not, it was time. A voice came over the speakers. “Did you guys enjoy that as much as I did? We have a real treat for you guys this afternoon. Trevor James is going to sing another song for us.” The crowd went wild. Oh my god, there were way more people than I thought when I really looked out from the stage. It seemed like the crowd just multiplied.
Trevor stepped up to the microphone and began talking with the crowd. “How’s everyone doing today? Sorry I didn’t chat before the first song. Do you guys forgive me?” The cheers got louder. “Awesome. I hope you guys don’t mind but my girl is going to sing with me again. Sing along with us.” The crowd cheered and when he began playing the first chords of the song the cheers were almost deafening.
When I sang, it was like no one else was there besides Trevor with me. We were singing to each other. Everything just came natural. The band was more than amazing with us. Being up there was such an adrenaline rush. After the song ended, Trevor looked at me and spoke into the microphone, “I love this girl so much.” With the crowd roaring he kissed me for everyone to see.
We thanked the band again for letting us sing and left the backstage area to mingle amongst the crowd. People were coming up to us telling us how awesome we sounded. I wished I could listen to us again just to hear it. It was overwhelming to see all these people just letting us know how much they liked us. Trevor walked up to a vendor stand to buy us a few drinks and they gave them to us on the house.
We found a spot on the lawn and sat down. Trevor placed his arm around my waist and pulled me closer to him. I sipped on my drink a little and placed it on the ground. I laid my head on his shoulder
