fun.”
“I know I joked about you being catnip, but does it ever get old?”
“Only when someone starts stalking me on social media and doesn’t understand the word no.”
My face heated. I turned to look away from him. I had totally stalked him on social media.
Travis leaned forward. “Are you blushing?”
“Hmm? What? No,” I said, shaking my head.
He nudged me with his shoulder. “What did you do?”
“I might or might not have stalked you on social media after meeting you.” I kept facing forward, so he couldn’t see all of my humiliation.
Travis laughed and put his hand on my knee. “Don’t fret, sexy. I stalked you a little, too.”
I turned to look at him, mouth agape, but his attention was caught by someone yelling his name.
“Travis.”
He stood as Jenna approached our table. Wow. When I’d invited her to show up, I hadn’t thought she’d actually come. To me, she was so beautiful and majestic that it seemed like she would have so many other things to do.
Travis kissed her on the cheek when she reached us.
“Hey, Sydney,” she said with a wave.
I smiled and waved back. “How’s it going?”
“Good.” She looked behind her. “I stopped and said hello to Vanessa on the way over here.” She held out her hands, showing two books she’d bought from Vanessa. “I had to buy the books and have her sign them since I’m here.”
“I bet Vanessa loved that.”
Jenna smiled and picked up a copy of my book with Travis on the cover. “Very nice.”
“Thank you,” we both said.
The three of us laughed.
“I guess it depends on what you’re complimenting,” I said.
“The whole thing. Nice picture, Travis. Great book design, Sydney.” She handed me the book. “How much?”
“Ten dollars.”
I opened the cover and grabbed my marker to sign it. After I was done, I gave it to Travis to sign. He finished up and handed it back to Jenna.
“Hey, I’m going to run to the restroom. You want to sit here with Sydney for a minute and help her?” Travis asked Jenna.
“Sure.” She looked at me. “If that’s okay with you?”
“Of course. But I don’t really need that much help. You can just sit and relax.”
“Thanks,” she said as she took Travis’s seat. “How’s today going so far?”
“Good. I woke up late, so I was rushing to get set up before the event started.”
Jenna smiled. “Stayed out too late?”
“Yeah. I’m not as young as I used to be.”
“You know, I think Travis really likes you.”
That had kind of come out of nowhere.
“Really?”
“Yeah, he was looking for you last night. He was disappointed that you hadn’t come to get him.”
“I thought he was joking about the whole twenty-minutes thing.”
“He wasn’t. You should have seen his face when he found you.” She smiled. “He was pretty happy.”
My face flushed but for a different reason. I loved hearing that he had been excited to see me. Now, I wanted to find Travis and leave the book signing, so I could take him upstairs.
I suddenly decided I needed to take advantage of my time with him. Even if it meant taking a break from my own event.
“I need to use the restroom, too. Do you mind sitting here until Travis gets back?” Please say yes. Please say yes.
“Sure.”
I jumped from my chair.
“What do I have to do?” Jenna asked.
Ah, crap. I hadn’t thought about that. Screw it. I was going anyway. “Books are ten dollars each. If someone wants me to sign it, I’ll be back as soon as I can.” I started walking away but stopped and remembered to be polite. “Thank you,” I said as I made a quick turn.
Jenna laughed. “You’re welcome.”
TRAVIS
I was standing outside the restrooms, talking to Trevon, when the door burst open, and Sydney walked out.
I smiled immediately, and her eyes lit up when she saw me.
She approached Trevon and me. “Hey, Trevon, do you mind if I steal Travis for a minute?”
Trevon looked at his watch. “Not at all. I’d better get back to Vanessa anyway.”
“Talk to you later,” I said to him.
“Later,” Trevon said with a smile as he walked away.
I turned to Sydney. “Do you need me to go back in, too? Sorry, I got sidetracked.”
“No, that’s okay,” she said as she looked around.
I frowned. She seemed to be looking for something.
She walked away from me, down the hall to another door. She opened it, peeked inside, and walked back to me with a sneaky grin on her face.
“What’s going on?” I asked her when she reached me again.
She grabbed
