To My Arrogant Boss (The Inappropriate Bachelors #2) - J. S. Cooper Page 0,20
you, don’t you think?”
“Are you joking?” She started laughing as she threw her head back. “You're my boss, not my military leader.” She rolled her eyes. “I took a break with my co-worker and we are now back at work finishing the projects you’ve asked us to do.” She leaned forward and grabbed the gold pen from my desk with a smile. “I don’t think we’ve done anything wrong. And let me also make one thing straight. I make the rules. You don’t tell me what to do.”
“I think the very definition of ‘boss’ means I do get to tell you what to do.” I leaned forward towards her as well. “I see you like my pen.”
“It’s okay.”
“It’s 18k gold.” I smiled. “It’s a Cross Classic Century pen and it came with a pencil. The set cost $7350. So if you want it, I’d accept $4000.” I expected her to put the pen back down quickly but instead, she just smiled.
“I think I’ll just keep it for free. Thanks.” She stood up and looked down at me. “Was there anything else you needed me for, Mr. Howard?” She gave me a little wink, and for the first time in my life, I was speechless. This reaction was not what I had expected from her at all.
“Jane,” I stood up and walked around the desk.
“Yes, Mr. Howard?”
“How badly do you want the pen?”
“Excuse me?” She made a face. “What do you mean?”
“I’ll let you keep the pen if you …” I looked down at my pants and then back at her. It was her turn to look like she’d had the wind knocked out of her.
“You’re a pig.”
“I told you before I prefer to be called a horse. It’s more fitting.”
“I’ll have the documents emailed to you within twenty minutes,” she said and then hurried to the door. She paused for a moment and then looked back at me with an evil smile. “I do agree that you have a face like a horse, Tate. I just didn’t think that would be a nice thing to say to you.” And before I could respond to her, she was gone.
I laughed as she walked away. Her insult had been more funny than hurtful. I knew I was handsome, and I knew that she was attracted to me. What I didn’t know was if she wanted me as badly as I wanted her.
I sighed as I headed back to my desk. I was playing with fire. Jane was the last woman I should be flirting with on a level like this. I knew I shouldn’t be doing it, but I couldn’t stop myself. I’d never met someone quite like her. She intrigued me and challenged me, and I had a feeling I wasn’t going to be able to stop until I had her in my bed. The only problem was I wasn’t sure what would happen next.
I wasn’t looking for a relationship and I sure as hell didn’t need any drama in my workspace.
Chapter 6
Jane
I sat at my desk after the office meeting and stared at the gold pen in my hand. Who the hell had a pen that cost $4000? Shit, who the hell had a pen that cost more than $5? Certainly not me. I couldn’t believe that I had just taken it off of his desk and walked out with it. I didn’t want it. I didn’t need it, and I’d be scared to lose it. I hadn’t intended on keeping it, but when he’d been so rude and cocky, I’d felt a need to do something out of the ordinary. I had debated between three options: slapping him, dropping to my knees, undoing his zipper and biting his cock as hard as I could, and taking the pen. I’d wanted to shock him. And I felt like a slap could get me arrested and that he’d enjoy my teeth on his cock too much. Plus, it just didn’t feel like it was the best option, considering the sexual tension we had. So I’d taken the pen. I’d seen the surprise in his face and the tinge of admiration. It had emboldened me … until he’d asked me how badly I wanted the pen. Like I was some sort of hooker. I was fuming, I was so furious at him. And even worse, I was furious at myself. I was pissed because my panties were wet and I was definitely horny.
