but now she wasn’t sure.
“And that’s what getting involved with a guy does to you,” CJ muttered aloud with a little grimace. She didn’t want to be one of those women, someone who changes their vacation plans for a man. But sex with Mac was so damned good. It was beyond addictive, and she’d had a terrible time trying to be responsible and concentrate on her work when she knew Mac was downstairs and all it would take was a smile or a come-hither look to get him into her bed. But she’d managed it, and now she was done.
CJ shut down her computer and closed it, stood to stretch, and then headed downstairs.
“How’s it going?” Marguerite asked when she found them all out on the porch, chatting with Mrs. Vesper.
“All done,” CJ said with satisfaction, settling on the arm of Mac’s chair. He’d patted his lap, offering her a seat there, but she wasn’t all that comfortable behaving so familiarly in front of his family.
“Bravo!” Marguerite grinned at her.
“Does that mean we’re headed for Mississauga?” Mac asked, taking her hand.
CJ bit her lip and hesitated as she debated continuing with her original plan or staying and enjoying her time with Mac. Or, more likely, helping him look for a new home base in her area. The man had to get back to work sometime. As his fingers ran over hers, sending chills up her back, she almost said yes, it was time to head to Mississauga, and offered to help him look for a new home. But she managed to control herself and instead took a deep breath and said, “Actually, I’m on vacation now, and had plans to go to Pelee for a couple weeks.”
“Oh!” Marguerite cried. “We should go too, Julius. I loved Pelee Island and had such a lovely time there with CJ. We should all go.”
Before CJ could respond, Mac squeezed her hand, drawing her attention to him as he asked quietly, “Would you be all right with that? If we joined you on the island?”
“Yes, of course. That would be fine. The island is awesome, but it’s much more fun with others there to play with,” she said, not really considering her words.
“Good, because I’d enjoy seeing your cottage and playing with you,” he assured her, his voice deep and sexy. He ran his thumb over her palm, sending a tingling up her arm that vibrated through the rest of her body.
“I meant—” CJ began, flustered, but then just stopped and shook her head as everyone chuckled. Clucking her tongue with irritation, she tugged her hand free of his tormenting fingers and asked, “Can you delay looking for a house for two weeks? Your boss won’t be upset?”
Mac shook his head. “Bastien’s the one who told me to take my time and sort out where I want to be first. Besides, he’s not really my boss. Argentis Inc. is a family business. All Argeneaus have stock in it.”
“That’s true,” Marguerite assured her when CJ looked surprised. “Bastien just heads up the different branches and organizes things and such. But we all have stock and we all have a say in what’s what.”
“Oh,” CJ murmured, a little startled to learn that. She’d been thinking of Mac as a lab rat, with a salary similar to her own, or possibly a bit larger. Instead, the man was a stockholder in a company with so many branches she hadn’t bothered to read the full list on the website. Cripes, he was like a Rockefeller, she thought with dismay.
“We have a large family,” Marguerite said suddenly as if she’d just read the thoughts running through her mind. “So the money is spread around quite a bit.”
CJ decided to let the subject drop in favor of announcing, “I’m hungry and thought I’d treat everyone to Chinese, or pizza or something if you guys don’t want Chinese again. I know you had it the other night.”
“I’m in for Chinese,” Bricker said at once. “Those spring rolls were good.”
The others chirped up one after the other in agreement. Even Mrs. Vesper was on board, and CJ pulled out her phone to make a memo on what everyone wanted and then went in to place the order for their last meal with Mrs. Vesper. They’d be checking out the next day and heading for Pelee Island. Just the thought of it made her smile. Two weeks on Pelee with Mac. And the others, of course. She couldn’t wait, CJ thought, and then
