fill out the paperwork and Delia will bring you back.” I looked over to Delia, the nurse behind the check-in desk, and she gave me a nod.”
“Briggs, we have another call” Linc shouted from the entrance of the E.R.
I hated leaving Sasha, but I didn’t have a choice.
“Go, I’m fine really. Thanks, for everything.”
“Call me if you…need anything.”
She nodded and sat back down filling out paperwork.
As I jumped back in the rig I tried not to think about the suitcase or Mrs. Nelson asking me to tell Sasha not to get on a plane with Drake. That wasn’t what mattered right now. All that mattered was that Mrs. Nelson was okay.
Chapter 31
Sasha
“You never realize what you have until it’s gone, toilet paper is a good example.”
~ Barbara-Jean Nelson
Monitors beeped. Pages came over the intercom interrupting soft music. Medical staff walked past me. It was strange to be in this environment and not be on a set. But this was real. Very real.
My shoe tapped on the linoleum floor as my knee jumped up and down.
“Excuse me.”
I looked up and saw two women who appeared to be in their thirties standing in front of me.
The taller of the two asked, “Are you Alexis Moon?”
“Um, yes, I mean I play her on Sunset Bay.”
“Can we take a picture?” The Melissa McCarthy as the character Tammy look-alike asked.
“Sure.” I stood and pasted a smile on my face.
They insisted on a dozen different snaps before they got one that they deemed “postable” for social media. I did my best to be patient, but after the tenth shot it was wearing thin.
I sat back down as they argued over who was going to post which pic on which platform and I did my best to tune them out. I stared at the clock. It had been over an hour since I’d gotten an update. Each minute that passed felt like an eternity. My phone buzzed and I ignored it. I didn’t care who was calling me or messaging me, all I cared about was Gam.
“Alexis?” I heard one of the women call out as if she’d been trying to get my attention.
I looked back at the duo and from their expectant faces, I could tell that they must have asked me, or Alexis, something. “What?” I asked.
“Are you and Trent really breaking up?” Melissa McCarthy look alike asked.
“You can’t break up!” The tall one insisted. “If you do, we’ll stop watching the show.”
“Um, I don’t write the show, so I don’t know. I don’t have any control over the storyline.” That wasn’t technically true at this point. Or at least it wouldn’t be if and when I signed my contract.
“But I just saw him on Access Hollywood, and he said that you’re not returning his calls.” They both nodded in agreement.
Oh…they were talking about me and Drake, not our characters. I honestly wasn’t sure that I had the patience to continue this conversation. I felt like I was teetering on the edge of a breakdown as my eyes began to get watery.
Luckily, just when I was about to lose it, the elevator doors opened, and three guardian angels emerged. Mrs. Porter, Mrs. Higgins, and Mrs. Scoggs pushed past the Sunset Bay fans and circled around me. The tears that had formed in my eyes fell down my cheeks.
“We would have been here sooner, but Dorothy got a flat and Triple A took their sweet time,” Mrs. Scoggs explained.
“My car got a flat, it’s not my fault,” Mrs. Higgins defended herself.
“How is she?” Mrs. Porter ignored her friends.
“I don’t know. They did a bunch of tests in the E.R and then admitted her, but that’s the last I’ve heard. Since they brought her up here I haven’t been allowed to go see her.”
“I’ll go see what I can find out.” Mrs. Porter walked to the nurse’s station.
It seemed to me that if there was a hierarchy in their group, she was the leader.
“Did they say anything?” Mrs. Scoggs sat down beside me.
“What did they say?” Mrs. Higgins sandwiched me on the other side.
“What happened?” Mrs. Scoggs spoke over Mrs. Higgins.
“Did she forget to take her medicine?” Mrs. Higgins questioned speaking over Mrs. Scoggs.
“I don’t know.” I looked between the two women wishing that I had answers for them. “We were talking and then she just collapsed.”
“What were you talking about?” Mrs. Scoggs inquired.
“Was she upset?” Mrs. Higgins asked at the same time.
“Um, I was packing to leave and, yeah, she wasn’t happy about that.” All of
