popular in the clubs. It’s got an okay beat. I mean, I wouldn’t say it’s my favorite song or anything, but ...”

“Don’t tell me that you like it,” I said in surprise. “Really?”

“No, not really.” He laughed. “But, think about it. What’s he saying in the song? He’s saying he’s in love with the shape of you, whatever, whatever, whatever, which, intrinsically is something positive. It’s basically telling women it doesn’t matter what type of body they have, what they look like, he’s going to still love you, right? That makes you feel good. He is validating you as a person.”

“I guess that’s true.”

“It is true! And the moral of his story, or the moral of his song, is to be happy to be who you are. Be happy in yourself, and that’s cool. I mean, I don’t like his music. I think it’s shit, but it’s cool that he has millions of women that believe in themselves now, that believe their body is beautiful just because he said it.”

“I guess that’s true. I never thought about it like that.”

“Think about it, Gemma. When you listen to music, when you’re singing along with the songs that you love, listen to the lyrics. Listen to what they’re telling you. Listen to what they’re making you think and feel about life. You’ll be surprised at how many different lessons you learn from music, and that’s why I like to make music, because I like to make people think.”

“Wow. That’s really cool. I’d love to hear some of your music sometime.”

“And I’d love for you to hear it.”

“Would you sing me something now?”

“Not on your life,” he laughed. “I have to be with my guitar or my keyboard. I’m not really great at acapella.”

“Aw, that’s okay.”

“But maybe sometime you can come over and hear me play?”

“Yeah. That sounds like it would be really cool.”

“And maybe when you come over, we can watch a movie as well.”

“Yeah, I like movies.”

“I’m glad to hear that. And, Gemma?”

“Yeah?”

“Maybe when you come over, you and I can make some beautiful music together.” He leaned over and grabbed my hand and I just beamed into the darkness. I was about to answer him, but the waiter arrived with our first course and our conversation turned to discussing the different foods on the plates in front of us.

Chapter 11

Connor: I wanted to let you know I had an amazing time at dinner tonight. I’ve never eaten pate and thought it was scallops before! :)

Gemma: I never knew I’d enjoy rabbit!

Connor: Great choice for a date.

Gemma: Thank you! Flattery will get you everywhere.

Connor: Everywhere?

Gemma: Well, maybe not everywhere.

Connor: I wanted to kiss you so badly tonight, but I wanted to show you that this is about more than sex.

Gemma: I wouldn’t have said no to a kiss...

Connor: Damn! I wish I’d known...what are you doing right now?

Gemma: Why?

Connor: I was thinking I could come over.

Gemma: We both know if you came over, it would be for more than a kiss.

Connor: You think so?

Gemma: Do you really think you could come over and just kiss me?

Connor: Well, not if you were naked...:)

Gemma: Why would I be naked?

Connor: I guess I was just hoping.

Gemma: Haha.

Connor: What if I don’t come up?

Gemma: What do you mean?

Connor: I mean, what if I came over for a goodnight kiss, but didn’t come upstairs?

Gemma: Where would you be?

Connor: In the street. All I want is one kiss.

Gemma: Really?

Connor: As much as I’d love to bend you over in an alleyway, that’s a bit much for our first time.

Gemma: You’re assuming there will be a first time?

Connor: More like hoping. :)

Gemma: Haha, okay.

Connor: So can I come over?

Gemma: For one kiss?

Connor: Yes, please?

Gemma: Fine. If you can make it in fifteen minutes, you can have one goodnight kiss.

“Oh my gosh. My hair looks like a hot mess, Sarah, and I don’t even have time to do anything with it,” I whined into the phone as I stared at my reflection in the mirror.

“I’m sure you look beautiful, Gemma. You always do.”

“Trust me, girl. I do not always look beautiful. You’ve never seen me on a Sunday morning after a night out, makeup all smeared on my face, hair frizzy, in my holey pajamas.”

“Trust me, Gemma, I think I know what you look like because I’ve seen myself on a Sunday morning, and it sounds like it’s about the same picture.” Sarah laughed. “I think it will be awesome, and that’s really sweet of him to want to
