captive at the casino and being paranoid he'd try to kidnap her or Cami again.
A loud bang came from the garage. She looked to the window and spotted more people inside talking to the employees. She tossed the empty wrapper and stood, carrying her pop to the other side of the room. Going off the schedule, there was no one scheduled to come in during everyone's lunch hour. The guys liked to use that time to eat and get caught up on the jobs that took longer.
The new arrivals all wore black leather vests with Tarkio Motorcycle Club on the back. Adrenaline filled her, and she looked for Paco in the group. Disappointed that he wasn't one of the members in the garage, she blew out her breath.
Deciding to cut her lunch hour short, she worked on filling out the insurance claims and had the box on the corner of her desk emptied by one o'clock.
She glanced into the garage. It appeared the employees weren't going to work and instead stood around talking to their friends. Checking the schedule, she frowned. They were supposed to be working on installing a new transmission on a Ford Ranger for Kip Michaels.
It wasn't her job to keep them on task. The only thing she was responsible for was scheduling and taking care of billing. Banks would have to explain to the customer if the job took longer.
The door opened, and Chrischris walked into the office. She looked back at the ledger in front of her, letting him do whatever he came to do.
After several minutes, she looked up and found him sitting on Banks' desk, watching her.
"Do you need something?" she asked.
He removed a can of chew from his pocket and thrummed his thumb against the lid. "What are you doing tonight?"
She pressed her back against the chair. Rarely had one of the men asked her questions regarding her personal life away from work. From the first day she got hired, they'd all kept their distance, which she appreciated. It was hard enough to acclimate to living off the Rez with men she wasn't familiar with and being afraid she'd mess up on the job.
So to have Chrischris asking her what her plans were was odd.
"I'm staying at home." She closed the ledger and put it in the top drawer on the right. "Does Banks need me to work longer tonight?"
She'd need to call Cami and let her know about the change of plans. After everything that Tarkio had done for her, she couldn't refuse to work overtime. Besides, extra money in her paycheck would always be welcome.
"Nah." Chrischris put a pinch of tobacco behind his lip. "I thought you might want to come to the clubhouse and hang out for a little while."
"Oh." Surprised, she tilted her head. "I don't think so."
"Why not?"
"I don't know anyone."
"You know me and the others from here. Paco and Curley will be there, too. All we'll be doing is hanging out and partying."
Her pulse accelerated, and she wondered if he could see the vein in her neck throb at the mention of Paco's name. She swallowed. "It's nice of you to ask, but—"
"I thought you could bring Cami with you. She needs to see that all men aren't assholes."
She studied Chrischris. Was he interested in her friend? If not, it was an even odder request to invite a pregnant woman to a party—going by how much they drank and smoked pot during the day while at work, she could imagine how their nights were spent.
"I don't know if anyone mentioned to you, but Cami's pregnant."
It wasn't a secret anymore since she'd told her parents about the baby. Cami embraced being a mother and wasn't going to let single status stop her from raising the baby or letting people shame her.
"Doesn't mean she can't have fun." Chrischris stood. "Run it by her and see if she wants to come. If you decide to show up...cool. If not, another time, maybe."
Chrischris walked out of the office. She inhaled deeply and looked back to the window. The men had gone back to work, and the Tarkio members had left.
If she went to the party, Paco might be there like Chrischris mentioned to her. She chewed on her lower lip. No, she wasn't going to chase him or show up, trying to have another night with him.
Besides, if he wanted to see her, he would've come to her apartment again.
