Heart Of Darkness (Transfusion Saga #10) - Stephanie Hudson Page 0,113

I only realised this a little too late as I went back a step from the force of something hitting me. This was when I looked down to where I now felt something foreign, something that I knew shouldn’t be there.

That was when I saw it. When I saw my own blade now sticking out of me in a way that I knew I wasn't going to come back from.

I knew this the moment my world started to turn upside down doing so now in slow motion before I landed.

Before I closed my eyes and…

Before I died.

Heart of Darkness

The moment Amelia had figured it out, I knew there was only one thing left for me to do and that was take out the threat as soon as possible! Because, despite trying to get her out of danger, the second I saw the McBain brothers being forced inside while fighting their own dark force, I knew that we needed to keep them away from Amelia for as long as possible. I was killing mad anyway, so at least I had something to direct all of my rage onto. However, this soon proved useless as it wasn't like any of the fuckers could die!

Because hit after hit and strike after strike and yet nothing, for the bastards kept coming! But it wasn’t just fighting one, it was fighting a small fucking army of the dead, as one was like fighting three, we weren't just outnumbered we were royally fucked!

They were not like anything I had ever fought before, for it was like fighting a ghost and how the fuck do you kill something that's already dead!? How do you fight a soulless being who was nothing but an empty vessel to fight you? It was only when I heard the King shouting to his brother of what the creatures were, that I fully understood it for myself.

“Wraiths.” The word had been hissed from my own demon’s mouth, bearing my fangs at them, and wanting nothing more than to take chunks out of them. But trying to fight them and concentrate on what my girl was doing as well, was becoming problematic… oh, who was I fooling, it had become near fucking impossible!

But then I shouldn't have been surprised, not when I finally did get to check on her only to find that she had a blade in her hand and was fighting back. Fuck, that was my Amelia! Gods, but if her father wasn't proud once I told him all that she had done, then I would beat the shit out of him for the offence! Because I was so fucking proud, as proud as I was angry at the fact that here we were again, with me trying to protect her from yet another fucking enemy, and the biggest kicker this time was that this one wasn't even ours!

But then finally she had done what none of us had and that was discovering its weakness. Doing so after scaring the shit out of me and landing on the floor in a painful heap, covering her ears as if she was trying to drown out a sound of some kind.

But soon she was forcing herself to her feet and pointing the way to end it all. Pointing in the direction I had to go. I didn't even think before I was running through the wall of windows and smashing my force through them before racing towards the threat I could now see in the shadows.

He was there fighting nothing and manipulating the movements of his wraiths we had been battling. He was so busy concentrating on the movements of his army that he didn’t even see me, so that all I had to do was grab him by the neck. Then I lifted him up, choking the life out of him, knowing now that all those we had fought in the King’s office were most likely feeling the same pain. In fact, I was just about to snap his neck and end it all, when I noticed the blood seeping from his shoulder.

This was when events started to play back at me, events that began with my girl. Because I remembered Amelia wanting to save my life and thinking she was capable of it as instinct took over. She threw her blade, discarding her only weapon to save me. It was one that flew straight through the Wraith I had been fighting, and out the window. This had been only moments before
