built to an incredible crescendo that was in no way disappointing when I finally reached my climax.
I moaned against him, which was my equivalent of shouting his name at the top of my lungs, and he wasn’t far behind me. After a few lazy thrusts, he pressed a deep kiss to my lips as he pulled out of me and we both lay back against the pillows breathing heavily.
I managed to reach a tissue and pass it to him to deal with the condom, but I didn’t think I’d have enough oxygen to speak for a few more minutes. Patrick seemed in no hurry, though.
When I finally had enough breath to talk, all that came out was, “Oh my God.” I looked over at him and found him watching me.
“I’m ready when you are, gorgeous,” he said, giving me the dirtiest wink I’d ever received. I loved it.
But I was still working on getting my breathing back to its proper, steady rhythm! “Now, I definitely know you’re not from my side of the tracks.”
He pulled me gently so I was lying over him. “Is that gonna be a problem?”
I shook my head. “On the contrary. It’s a preference.”
His face settled into this expression of something soft but hard all at the same time. Like he was just as turned on as me and not at all because we hadn’t done the job properly in the first place.
We weren’t in any danger of mistaking this for anything more than it was, but we could definitely enjoy and appreciate each other while we were at it.

I stepped out of the elevator and was halfway to my office when Rollie’s, “Someone got lucky!” rang through the whole floor of the building.
“Who said anyone got lucky?” I asked, but my smile would have given it away.
Normally, I wasn’t the sort of guy to go all moony over a lay. In fact, I couldn’t remember the last time a woman had made me quite so giddy about the simple act of a one-night stand. But Leah, it seemed, wasn’t your average woman.
We’d gone four rounds before I’d called a car, each one more athletic and longer than the previous one. Between the two of us, we’d made it pretty clear it didn’t mean anything and I was sure we were both happy to keep it that way. So, I’d given her a lingering kiss when I’d left, but nothing had been said about exchanging contact info or seeing each other again.
I was man enough to admit that a part of me was hoping we were both assuming a reunion was inevitable due to Leah and Mrs Fortescue running in the same circles. There seemed something quite right about leaving it up to fate or whatever to bring us together again. I wasn’t sure why that was. I was definitely the sort of guy who didn’t like making plans – it sent the wrong message – and I had a feeling Leah was the same, which suited me perfectly.
“Does that self-satisfied smugness mean what I think, Rollie?” Nico asked, leaning on his doorframe, trusty caffeine in hand.
Rollie sniggered. “Do you think it means Hawk finally broke his dry spell?”
“Oi!” I replied indignantly. “It hasn’t been that long.”
“It’s been a depressingly long time,” Nico said dryly.
“What you count as a depressingly long time, the rest of us consider normal,” I informed him.
Nico shrugged like it wasn’t his fault he got more action than – probably – the rest of us combined. “Whatever.”
As he disappeared back into his gloomy nerd-cave, I, not for the first time, wondered not only where he found the time but how in the Hell he managed to pull so many girls.
We weren’t exactly the ‘sleepover and divulge every aspect of our sex lives to each other’ types, but we spent so long together that it was difficult to hide anything. And yet, Nico successfully managed to keep a tight lid on exactly how lucky he got. He wasn’t a shy dude but, for a guy who had a healthy hatred for humanity in general, it was a wonder he got any at all.
Still, there were tell-tale signs with all of us. After basically living together for all those years and then seeing each other pretty well every day since, we’d all been at our best and worst and everything in between. So, we knew each other’s tells, we knew what the slightest facial muscle movement meant – within reason, we weren’t mind readers.
