and shrugged. “There’s too many variables. Too many ‘what if’s’ and no hope that we will win. When I picture it in my head, there’s no fucking way we come out on top. But regardless, we still have to try. It’s the only way to end this”
Kai leaned to the side and plopped into the chair. “You’re right, Zan. It’s a risk. All of it is the biggest fucking risk we’ve ever taken, and will ever take, in our lives. But at least we are going in knowing that. It will make us more aware, more cautious. The variables in this plan make it even more important that you take out Raven as soon as you have the chance. No hesitation. No waiting for a better shot. You kill her fast. As fast as you possibly can.”
He had a lot of faith in me. “And, I’m still hoping you are right about Raven and her powers in the Under. I’m hoping we have the advantage down there. Raven’s not as used to being down there, and we’ve been traipsing through those waters all of our lives. Plus, we know that your power is stronger down there. So Raven being weaker, combined with the swimming, and you being stronger, should give us the upper hand. Still, Zaniah, even if it means losing someone else, you’ve got to take her out swiftly. Use all of those things to your advantage.”
“You know what that means, don’t you?” Caspian asked, with that smarmy look on his face. I knew that look. The half-smile, sinister and expecting. “That means our girl needs to be as strong as possible to take on Raven and her powers. That fire needs to be blazing. Conveniently, that means you need to feed again and I’m in just the mood to be fed.”
My stomach clenched at all he implied, feeling warmth grow in between my legs at the mere thought of another romp. Fuck, we’d just barely recovered from our shower sesh, and now he expected me to go again?
Who am I kidding?
Of course I want to.
Though, the Siren had said he didn’t want to be fed from…
I turned to Kai, wiggling my eyebrows, then said “Care to feel what it’s like to be fed from by a Hunter?” To my surprise, the Mer’s eyes impaled me with a wicked gleam. I gulped, clenching my thighs together.
“I was hoping you’d ask.”
At that, Caspian rolled his eyes and began to exit Llyr’s room. “I’ll just be in the cafeteria I guess. I’m the only one who doesn’t get to survive off the life-source of this dick.” He grabbed his junk as he said it and I nearly launched myself at his arrogant ass. Fucking Sirens.
Kai snorted a laugh, watching Caspian’s long strides disappear down the hall. Turning back to me, he tilted his head and said, “Not here.”
I nodded vigorously, jumping off the couch that was likely covered in questionable liquids, and strode to his side. He took my hand and hurriedly yanked me down the hall. I let him, amused at his eagerness. After a few wrong turns, I finally took pity on the guy and tugged him in the right direction.
“Dammit, that was supposed to be sexy. In control.” I looked up at him, grinning hugely. It felt like we were back to how we were. When we were young and full of wonder for our future. Now, watching him shyly trying to flirt and bed me, I think I loved him even more.
“You’re still managing alright.”
“I think you’ve been on land for too long, Princess. The dry air’s got your brain addled.” He winked as he said it and I pinched his arm.
“Ow!” He yelped, but there was no anger in his gaze.
As we reached my dorm, I pushed the door open, quickly checking to make sure Caspian had gone where he said he had. As much as I had enjoyed our little shower together, I wanted a little alone time with my bodyguard.
Behind me, the door shut and I whirled to face the powerful Mer. He stood there in all his golden-skinned glory, smiling at me in a way that told me he’d be doing naughty things to me. I wasn’t complaining. The lock clicked and I gulped, already wet.
“Does it hurt?” Kai asked, innocence shining through his handsome features.
“Feeding? No. At least, Caspian has told me it doesn’t. You’ll have to confirm that for me.”
Kai nodded. Then, without hesitation, he closed the gap between us and
