lost found our cabin and decided to camp in it until they found their strength to continue their journey.
Often times, they used our food, showers, and clothes.
That’s why every time we came up here, we stacked up on everything, knowing that there was probably someone consuming our food and using our things.
This time, our guest was still inside, probably sleeping and enjoying the warmth of our damn wool covers.
Last time someone slept in my bed, I had to change the covers and sheets because of the fucking body odor lingering on them.
Hopefully this time, the unwelcomed guest slept in one of the other bedrooms.
Maybe Nordin’s.
Or Summit’s.
Either way, we had to send whoever it was on their way so we could get ready to hunt.
“How do you wanna go about it this time, brother?” Nordin asked.
He was the middle child, and even at thirty-five, he still got away with everything he did.
Although our parents weren’t around anymore, between us three, he was the one no one wanted to fuck with.
Not us.
Not any other guy.
Nordin was a piece of work.
Didn’t talk much, but when he did, he was most likely about to insult you.
Summit, on the other hand, at thirty-three, he was the calmest out of the three of us.
He was smart, and instead of going to college to become a lawyer or doctor, he decided to follow Nordin and me up into the mountains to hunt animals and sell them to butchers and other retailers in town.
Our business consisted of killing wild animals, mostly bears, throughout hunting season.
We were allowed to.
No need to go deeper into that.
It was our job, and whoever had a damn problem with it, could fuck off.
“Maybe we should let the beast handle them,” Summit suggested, nodding to my Newfoundland dog Kodiak next to me.
“Don’t want him to scare anyone. I’ll just knock. Let them know we’re here so then they can go on their way.”
I walked up to the cabin and sighed, hoping this time whoever was in there wouldn’t put up a fight.
I knocked, with my brothers and dog standing behind me.
After a few seconds, I knocked again.
But still, no one was coming to the door.
“Listen, man. We’re being nice here. Come out or we’ll come in, but I don’t think you want the second option.”
I knocked again, and finally, there was noise inside.
I turned to look at Nordin and Summit, and both of them were standing there with their arms crossed over their chests and a raised brow.
Shaking my head, I turned back around to knock on the door once more.
“I’m not gonna wait any longer. Open the door!” I ordered.
It took a few seconds before the door unlocked from the inside, and I stepped back, giving whoever was inside a bit more space.
Nordin already pointed his shotgun at the door, but I lifted my hand to tell him to put it down.
There was no need for guns.
At least not yet.
The door cracked open slightly, and as we awaited to find out who had been spending time in our cabin, my body tensed.
But the second I saw that long hair and bloodshot eyes, I didn’t feel like sending the intruder on their way.
Chapter Two
Echo
My heart was pounding in my chest.
When I heard that deep voice, I jumped out of bed and pulled my jeans on, then hurried to make the bed and make sure the bathroom didn’t look messy.
He kept knocking, and referring to him and other guys.
He wasn’t alone, which made me even more nervous.
I had opened the door just a crack, and as I saw who was standing in front of me, my breath hitched.
All three men were staring me up and down, and for me, it was a lot to take in - those tall, muscular men.
The one in the front had a beard covering half of his face, and the hair on his head was long enough to pull back into a man-bun.
The one on his left looked mad.
Annoyed.
Done with my shit although I hadn’t said anything yet.
Well, that wouldn’t happen anyway, but he didn’t seem too happy.
The last one of the three didn’t seem too bothered though.
The corner of his mouth even curled up, as if he was glad to see me.
I stood there, barefoot, waiting for them to talk.
The one closest to me raised his brows, then finally moved his lips to speak.
“Did you have a good time in our cabin?” he asked, somewhat serious but with a slightly amused undertone to it.
He wasn’t mad?
I slowly nodded.
“Wanna tell
