This Fearless Girl (St. Clary's University #2) - E. M. Moore Page 0,86
hasn’t done anything to me except make me shoot Lance, which was no great hardship at all. In fact, if I would’ve just killed Stone’s father like Cole wanted me to, Stone wouldn’t now be playing fiancé to some uptight bitch. Despite his piercings and tattoos, maybe Cole isn’t all bad.
“Stay here,” I tell him.
He reaches inside the car and Wyatt immediately goes on the defense. “Woah, woah.”
“It’s just my gym bag.” He pulls it out and drops it on the ground in front of him. “You can check me. I don’t have any weapons. I’m only here because of Cole.” His jaw feathers like he’s not all that happy to be here. He gives a cocky grin. “Actually, the only two weapons I have are right here.” He makes fists with his hands. “But I don’t plan on using them on anybody except for training purposes.”
I start forward again, Wyatt and Lucas following me. I go into my room to grab my phone, and sure enough, there are a few texts and even some missed calls from the leader of the Dragons. Even though I read his text messages telling me that Finn is coming, I call him anyway.
“He there?” Cole asks as a greeting.
“He’s here,” I confirm while I walk back into the living room where Wyatt and Lucas stand. Wyatt glares at the phone like he wants to rip it in half.
“Good,” Cole says. “Finn is the best of the best. He knows what he’s doing.”
“Wyatt’s already training me,” I tell him, biting the inside of my cheek.
Cole laughs. “Seriously?” I can almost picture him on the other side of the line. “I get it, okay? You want your boyfriend to roll around on the ground with you, but I’ve sent you one of the best boxers I know. You can’t train with your boyfriends. They’re going to either be worried about hurting you or wondering when they can get you into bed. Finn isn’t going to be like that because I threatened castration if you have a single thought about adding him to your harem. Understood?”
Harem? I wrap my hand around the back of my neck. He’s not wrong.
“Trust me.” His voice is sure and strong but laced with a bit of frustration, too. “You need this guy. You have no idea the kind of trouble you’re in, Dakota. Where I’m from, you train for anything because you never know what you’ll come up against. I’m sure Wyatt’s fine,” he grinds out like he doesn’t actually think that at all. “But trust me on this one.”
I lower my gaze as a thought pops into my head. Avoiding Lucas and Wyatt’s stunned looks, I move out of earshot and to my bedroom. “I need a favor.”
“Anything,” he says.
“Stone’s mom. She—”
“Anything but that,” he growls.
“Listen, he’s not what you think he is. You need to trust me on that. His mom is missing, and it’s his dad who’s keeping her away. He says he won’t—”
“Let me guess,” Cole interrupts. “Lance Jacobs says he’s not going to tell Stone where his mom is unless he marries that girl so they can combine their family fortunes? These rich fuckers are so damn predictable. And this is a problem for you because you want Stone all to yourself.”
I grit my jaw. “Yes.” Jesus. It felt like I had to keep tugging on a string attached to that answer. Like the yes didn’t come from my brain, I had to drag it out of my soul. I don’t like feeling weak in front of Cole. Admitting I want Stone for myself is doing just that.
“I’ll tell you what,” Cole starts. “You work with my guy and I’ll see if I can find Stone’s mom. But I’m doing this for you, baby g—. Dakota. I don’t give a fuck about the Jacobses at all, but if it makes you train then I’m all for it.”
Two words of sincerity pop into my head, but they seem out of place while talking to the leader of a gang. Do people say thank you to a guy like Cole? Do you dare not say it?
“You work with Finn, and I’ll start on your request. We good?”
“We’re good,” I confirm, releasing the breath I’d been holding.
He hangs up the phone, and I walk back out into the living room as Wyatt and Lucas eye me suspiciously. I get it. I’m not trying to hide anything. Asking Cole for that favor was a spur of the moment decision.
