This Fearless Girl (St. Clary's University #2) - E. M. Moore Page 0,87
“Can you let him in? I’m going to get changed.”
Wyatt frowns. “Dakota? Seriously?”
“Seriously,” I say, keeping my voice firm. The guys aren’t the only ones calling the shots. “Trust me on this one.”
Wyatt lets out a huge sigh that says he’s not fucking cool with this at all, but I ignore him.
“Dakota…” Lucas’ rich tenor stops me in my tracks.
I groan inwardly. I can’t ignore Lucas when he uses that voice.
“What’s going on?”
“Just trust me, okay?” I plead. “I’ll tell you after this trainer guy leaves.” Which will also hopefully buy me enough time to figure out how to explain to them that I made a deal with the gang leader who’s pulling our strings; who’s held guns to our heads.
I go into my room and pull on a pair of capris and a t-shirt. I pile my curly hair on the top of my head and join them out in the living room, hoping I’m not making a huge mistake after all.
When I get out there, Wyatt is laying out the mats that we had from our session before. My new trainer is sitting on the blaringly white couch that’s been pushed against the wall, rummaging through his bag. He takes out a pair of focus mitts and sets them to the side before looking up to meet my gaze. “Come sit here,” he says, gesturing toward the couch. “I’m going to wrap your hands.”
“I can do that,” Wyatt offers quickly.
Finn gives him the side-eye. “Do you know how to? I’m pretty particular about the way I wrap hands. Why don’t you watch me do it this first time, and then you can do it in the next session?” He throws his bag to the floor and pats the couch next to him. I offer him my hand, and he pulls it across his thigh. “I trained one of the most badass women fighters I’ve ever met in my life. She preferred purple wrap, so I happen to have a bunch of it laying around.” He looks lost in his thoughts for a moment before giving me a grin. “Hope you don’t mind.”
I shrug. “Purple’s fine.”
Wyatt stands with his arms crossed over his chest, watching Finn. I’ve never had my hands wrapped before, but I can tell Finn is an expert. He’s meticulous and steady but does it with speed like he’s been doing it his whole life. “I own a boxing gym back home with my brother,” he explains. “He’s running the show while I’m here.”
I nod, not really knowing what to say. He seems like a decent enough guy. Actually, he smiles a lot, which I appreciate, and if Wyatt didn’t have his ego hurt, he’d probably feel okay around him, too.
After he finishes, he shoves a glove onto my fist, then hesitates. “I’m assuming you don’t have your own pair of gloves?”
I shake my head. “No. No gloves.”
He nods in understanding, then we all get up. “So, I’m only here to train Dakota, but if you guys want to jump in, be my guest. I’m used to full classes, so it won’t bother me.”
Wyatt and Lucas briefly look at each other, then jog down the hallway toward their rooms. “They’re fun,” Finn grins. “Maybe a little jealous, but that’s hardly surprising. It’s natural to be protective of the people you care about. You’re dating both of them, aren’t you?”
I nod, my stomach tightening. I hadn’t really thought of it that way before. We might be all on different levels with our relationship but, yeah, I’m definitely dating them.
“Oddly, not the first girl I’ve met with multiple partners. You must be one strong woman. The girl I knew was dating four.”
“Four?” I almost choke. “And I thought three was a lot.”
“Three?” He tilts his head to the side.
“Stone,” I tell him, a small smile turning my lips. “He’s not here right now. He’s otherwise engaged.” I almost laugh but realize I’m pretty sour that those words actually match up too well.
He shakes his head. “Damn. You go girl. That’s all I got to say.”
I’m still grinning when Wyatt and Lucas come out, and one look at Wyatt has me smiling even wider. He’s wearing a huge tank top, the kind with big arm holes that show off the muscular definition in his chest from the side. He also left his cowboy hat in the room, as if to show Finn he means business. He really doesn’t like the fact that someone else is here to train me,
