Fairy Tales and Cappuccinos (Everyday Love #1) - Taylor Rylan Page 0,22
started the night before. Only we’d not started anything, but I was more than willing to. And to finish. More than once.
“So online?” Missy asked again, breaking into my thoughts of getting Sawyer naked and sweaty under me in bed. Thankfully Sawyer could talk because I knew I couldn’t.
“Yes, online. But I have very close friends in the area that can vouch for me. I’d love a bacon double cheeseburger with everything on it except onions, a large fry, and a Sprite, please,” Sawyer told Missy. Then he looked at me and raised both eyebrows. “What about you?” Sawyer placed a hand low on my stomach, and I couldn’t help it. In my already half-aroused state, the move had my dick becoming uncomfortable in my jeans. I cleared my throat, hoping to get my voice back. Damn. What would his hands feel like on bare skin if they did this to me through my sweater?
“Same,” I croaked out. I looked at Missy expectantly, and she just nodded before pushing buttons on the register. She finally gave us the total, so I pulled out my card and swiped it on the reader. After she handed us our cups and the receipt, I tugged Sawyer off and away from her. I didn’t think anything of it and laced my fingers with his as we walked through the restaurant.
When we made it to the soda machine, Sawyer bumped into my side, drawing a quick glance from me. When I finished filling my cup, I looked at him and raised an eyebrow.
“You definitely have to explain,” Sawyer whispered.
“I will. Just not here,” I said, leaning in to whisper in his ear. Sawyer shivered, and I mentally fist pumped the air. There was no way he wasn’t attracted to me. Not only had I caught him staring at my ass back at the store, but that combined with everything that had happened in the last five minutes, I was thinking that the rule of not dating my employee needed to be thrown out.
“Fine. But I want to go to the festival. You owe me cider and something pumpkiny.”
“Umm, okay. Can we go another night? By the time we get through there, the store will be closed. And I really don’t want to go to the festival with all of the supplies in the bed of the truck.” The last thing I really wanted to do right now was go to the damn home improvement store. No, what I wanted to do was take Sawyer back to my place and get him naked.
“Deal.” Sawyer put his cup under the dispenser, and after he made his selection and it dispensed his drink, he put the lid on and grabbed a straw. I already had a pile of napkins, so I gestured toward an open table so we could sit. Sawyer sat facing the back, and I took the seat facing the door. He sat there, staring at me, waiting.
“In a bit, okay? But could you not look irritated with me?”
“Hmm, am I? I mean, I don’t think I am.” Sawyer grabbed my hand, lacing our fingers together on top of the table. It was most definitely a date thing to do, and I noticed my thumb absently rubbed against the side of his.
We didn’t get to chat more before Missy brought our food out to us and discovered us holding hands. I had to remind myself that this wasn’t real. Even if I wanted it to be.
“Thanks,” Sawyer said. He gave her a smile that I’d seen a few times around the store, and I wondered what type of effect it would have on me if directed my way. Especially right about now.
“You’re welcome,” Missy said. She looked at me, pursed her lips, and then left.
“Okay, so she’s…interesting.” Sawyer let go of my hand and reached for the tray Missy had set at the edge of the table.
“She means well. I think. Mostly.” I sighed but took my burger from the tray and set it in front of me. I opened the wrapper and reached for my fries before continuing. “She kinda mothers me, and it can get a bit annoying. And embarrassing.” I glanced around and leaned forward a bit. “She’s always trying to set me up with other guys in here. Even if they aren’t gay. And I’m sorry for putting you on the spot like that. But I can’t thank you enough for playing along.”
