her better, to understand a woman who was so adamant about holding her brother’s interests at heart she would step into a world where most would see her as completely unwelcome to do it.
And honestly, he didn’t mind the idea of possibly exploring the chemistry he’d felt pass between them, either. That would have to be on the back burner, under the circumstances. So, multiple opportunities could open up through this job.
To Corey he said, “Thanks, Pres. I won’t let you down.”
Corey smirked. “Yeah, yeah. Don’t let your guard down, either. Or your pants. You said this was about the job, not the girl, so don’t go fucking around and screw her because it’ll screw everything up.”

The sound of a motorcycle engine shook the window of her tiny makeshift office, prompting Brett to gather up her papers and put them back into the folder. She smirked thinking that nobody could sneak up on her, but she was also very angry as the bike got closer. Why was there only one? Sure, she knew that the Devil’s Flames were sending someone to put on the inside they could trust to send back accurate info on the Suns. But she’d expected said person to arrive with an entire crew.
As she stood, took two steps, and left the office, the last person she expected to stride through the clubhouse door was Ethan Woodbridge. She probably could have handled just about anyone else coming into her club with grace and poise, but just the sight of Ethan had all sorts of strange sensations coursing through her that had her off her game.
“Brett,” he acknowledged with a nod.
She returned the gesture. “Ethan.”
Glancing around at the falling apart shack, he gave her a crooked smile. “I guess we’re going to be seeing a lot more of each other for a while.”
Several dirty thoughts passed through her mind, not the least of which was asking him to strip down so she could see a lot more of him. But she kept that to herself and smiled back, trying to grapple the raging rush of hormones flowing through her so she could have a normal respectable conversation with the man here to help her get the club sorted out “I guess that means you’re the inside guy.” She motioned broadly. “Well, welcome to the club, even though there’s not much to see here. I’m sure you’re tired from the ride, so I’m not going to give you all the paperwork and details until you’re ready for it. I’ve spent days organizing this shit. Also, do you have a place to stay around here? Oh, you don’t have to answer if you don’t want to.” She stopped herself from continuing her uncharacteristic rambling.
He smiled and nodded. “Yeah, that works for me. Also, its ok, I trust you, that’s why I asked Corey to come here. I’ve got an apartment we’re renting out for the time being, and I want to get settled in before I start sticking my nose in your business.” His eyes roamed over her, and snapped back up almost as if he caught himself checking her out. Brett wanted to return the innuendo with banter of her own, but she restrained herself too.
“So you volunteered to come out here? Why?” She smirked as she asked.
His eyes focused straight into hers as he spoke, “Well, I saw it as a good opportunity.” As his eyes traced down to her lips and back up again. This was getting into dangerous territory, and she shrugged and chose to change the topic before shit got out of hand. “Sure, if you say so. I’m just going to grab some lunch. You hungry?”
He seemed to hesitate, and for a moment, Brett felt disappointed. Why she felt this way? She didn’t know.
Then, he shrugged. “Yeah, I could eat. Let’s grab something and go check out this apartment. See how dull it is.” He smirked. “It’s furnished, so I’m hoping it’s not furniture from some estate sale. Cast offs from some old guy with antiquated taste.”
Brett laughed. “Well, if that’s the case, we’ll get a moving van, and you can trade for some of the shit I have in storage. I have a staging company, so I’ve got a warehouse full of stuff to stage houses for sale. Best part is its gotten to the point that its autonomous, I just look at the numbers once or twice a week, keep tabs on the contracts, and only have be at work a couple
