an eyebrow at him because, really.
“Where is the fun in that?” He winks at me before sitting in the chair opposite. “They’re here.”
“They?” I ask, as a knock at the door tells me who they are anyway.
“Colt. Bauer,” I say as they enter, looking around the place, looking anywhere but at me, and the imposing Angel sat in my chair with his wings still out.
“Maybe you should shut the door, and stop being so fucking rude to your sister,” Levi snarls at them, and Bauer about jumps three feet in the air before slamming the door closed.
“Remy. Didn’t expect you to bring backup,” Colt says, I can see his exhaustion, hear it in his voice.
“And I thought you were coming alone. Surprises all around I guess.” I give him a smug and pointed glare. “Want to sit, or are you not staying long?”
They take a seat at the stools in my kitchen, keeping their distance, but it means I have to twist to see them, so I climb onto the sofa, and sit on the arm, facing the rest of the room so I can see everyone.
“What did you want to talk about?” I ask, though I already have a feeling.
“I assume one of your boyfriends already told you that you’ve been cast out,” Bauer snarls at me, before looking wearily at Levi.
“I’m aware. Though he says I’m not, so bully for you guys,” I tell him with a shrug as I motion to Levi, and Bauer looks like his head might explode.
“Another one of your pets, is he? What a collection you have.” Levi practically growls at Bauer’s words, making him go pale, but I just laugh.
“As much fun as this is, what do you guys want?” I sigh, growing weary of this little game already.
“We came here to tell you that cast out, means out. It means no coming back to the family. No relationships with other Hunters. Full and complete break off. If Creek sticks with you, he’ll be cast out too,” Colt tells me, he almost looks sorry.
“I guess he won’t, because, again, Angel.” I wave towards Levi to enhance my point. “Anything else? Any more empty threats?”
“How could you betray us like this, Remy? After all these years, all those deaths. After Mom,” Bauer practically spits at me.
“Don’t you dare try to use her against me!” I shout, jumping down from the sofa, and Levi stands beside me.
“Bauer, stop it.” Colt sighs, no sign of the fun, happy go lucky brother I knew.
“She betrayed us, Colt. All of us.”
“No, she fell in love. She picked them over us. It is what it is. We should go, we gave her the message from the Elders, redundant as it is, it seems.” He shakes his head and tries to usher Bauer to the door, and my heart shatters.
“I didn’t pick them. I didn’t want to pick at all. You guys never gave me a chance to explain. Not one. So, don’t you dare put all of this on me. You sold me out to the Elders before I got to say one word about anything.” I try to say the words without breaking, and I can see that they affect Colt, his heart breaks too, but Bauer. He just hardens further.
“You are nothing to me,” Bauer hisses and storms from the room.
“I’ll drop him from the top of this building without any regrets if you want me to,” Levi growls, and Colt pales as I shake my head, trying not to smile.
“No, let him be. He’s hurting.”
“I don’t give a flying fuck if he’s hurting.” Colt laughs, and my eyes whip up.
“Flying fuck. Get it, cause he’s an Angel.” He shrugs with a small smile, and I laugh too.
“I get it.”
“I’m sorry, Remy. I’m sorry I didn’t fight to hear what you had to say. I didn’t know a thing until it was too late. By the time I could do anything, you were in chains and being led away. They said you fought Bauer, that you defended the Dracul.”
“That isn’t what happened. And his name is Kain,” I sigh, shaking my head.
“I know that now, I spoke to Creek. He tried to tell us, to tell Dad, that you couldn’t be cast out, but you know how Dad is.”
“I know. Stubborn as a goat,” I say and smile again.
“Maybe we can try this again, without Bauer, and maybe without the terrifying Angel on your shoulder. Maybe I can try to understand?”
“I’d like that.” I nod at
