their way. Kain is dealing with politics, and Creek? Well I’m sure you can imagine the shit storm going on with the Hunters right now.”
I sigh at Roman’s words and take a step back. Levi crosses the room and hands me a glass of my own. I take a sip and savor the burn. This is the good stuff.
“I’m sure I can.” I take a seat in the corner of the sofa and pull the blanket over my legs. Roman sits beside me, and if it weren’t for the look from Everly, I think he’d have hauled me into his lap, but instead he takes my hand in his, and squeezes it. I find it kind of hilarious that he’s wary of the older woman. “How are the packs? Any news of the rogues? Or any news at all?”
“Not really. We spent the two weeks you were locked away trying to either get into the chamber to get you out or coming up with ways to get you during the trial. Angel boy took the moment from us, but I’m just glad you’re okay. There is a meeting of the Alphas in a few weeks, so I will have to travel for that, but for the minute, everything seems quiet. There have been very few deserters of the pack in the last few weeks. It makes me nervous and happy at the same time.”
“I think that’s the most I’ve ever heard you speak,” Levi jokes from his perch on the other side of the room, his eyes darting to my hand in Roman’s before sneering at the Lycan. A knock on the door echoes around us and Everly leaves to open it. Less than twenty seconds later, I’m lifted from my seat and being cradled in strong arms, engulfed in the smell of pine and rain that I’ve come to recognize as Kain.
“Mon amour,” he sighs before pulling back and taking my face in his hands. He steps back and examines me as if looking for injury before glancing over his shoulder to Levi. “Was she hurt?”
“I’m right here,” I huff. But Levi answers him.
“Not in the way you’re thinking. But you can see for yourself that she’s slimmer. They barely fed her, had her trapped in that one room for the entire two weeks. No exceptions.”
“How do you know that?” I ask, realizing I hadn’t told him.
“I make it my business to know,” he says in a tone that barters no argument.
“Are you okay now, mon coeur?” Kain asks me and I nod.
“I’m fine.” I smile, and he kisses me softly.
“Sorry I was late, I had something that required my attention I couldn’t hand off to Luc.”
“It’s fine, honestly,” I tell him with a smile. Really, it is. If they’d all arrived together, I’d have had to pick who to say hello to first, and nope. Not today Satan.
“I found another one!” Everly’s voice carries down the hall, before she and Creek emerge in the room. Sadness flits through me as I see him tired, worn down, and looking beyond stressed. The others might not see it on him, but the dark circles under his eyes are telling, even if they don’t know him like I do.
“Creek.” I sigh and move from Kain to him, and he hugs me so tight I can barely breathe. But I feel him shudder beneath my touch, his muscles relax a little, and I realize the worry has been just as hard on him as dealing with our families. The last few days have not been good to him.
“Hey beautiful,” he breathes, his hand bunching in my hair, pulling me closer to him. I close my eyes and just let him hold me, knowing he needs it as much as I do.
“Well, now the reunions are all done, why don’t we talk strategy,” Levi’s voice rings out across the room, the General that he’s always been comes through in the way he talks and tries to take over the direction of the conversation. So very little patience... I look at him, but he doesn’t seem to register it.
“First, how about we talk about the fact that my mate has your fucking mark on her body,” Roman says standing to face Levi. I groan, because this is the last thing we need.
“I told you when you asked last time, it’s not your concern. It is between Remy and I,” Levi tells him crossing his arms.
“If you two break anything, I swear to everything that
