Alpha Siege (Omega Mates #1) - Pearl Tate Page 0,60

Holy Scripture… the entire Omega Prophecy, at face value? No analogies or anything like that?”

“Exactly. Maybe those ideas that this was just an analogy or parable… something that meant something else was plausible in the past. It made sense when we weren’t being exposed to Siege events. But in the last five years, we’ve gone from having a Siege once a year, to an accelerated pace of now every three days.”

Pup spins in a small circle, raising his voice before settling his eyes on me. “What would happen if you had a Siege event while crossing through sak territory? Or swimming? You’re rendered incapable of speech, movement, or sight. You’re at your most vulnerable, for an unknown length of time? Until I met Gail, I had no idea how long they even lasted. Do you have any idea?”

I’m already nodding slowly at the validity of his statement. He’s right. The only way to determine how long they last is by what I might have been doing at the time. Fires have never gone out during a Siege, so we’ve always assumed they’re quick. But if they’re getting longer, we’d have no way of knowing.

Since they affect everyone everywhere, there’s never been a way to make any kind of definitive study about whether they’re getting longer. According to the low dwellers, who supply our suppressants, the drugs aren’t created to stop the Siege events because there’s no way to do that. No, they’re just supposed to help us shake it off quicker and not be so exhausted after.

“Exactly. This can’t continue, because if it does there’s no way of coming back from it. What happens when it’s multiple times a day? We’ll never know when it’s going to happen, and our tasks and duties will start revolving around it.”

My mind spins at the implications. He’s right, and this is something that we should all be concerned about. I look down at the tiny female that I’ve claimed as my mate. I never planned to share with anyone how my cock swelled during climax, locking us together as an Omega historically would with an Alpha. She’s mine and discussing our bedroom practices is not anything that I’d ever be required to do.

“This group, the Betas you mentioned? You said they had a hand in your bounty?”

“Yes.” Putting his hands on his hips, Pup looks at the ground. “I considered trying to convince you I wasn’t your normal low dweller bounty. They’re utilizing covert operations to try to suppress any kind of active investigation into more of our Holy Scriptures on this matter. They don’t believe that only the Omegas can save our planet. They think they can do it themselves, turning our planet into a more equal hierarchy, declaring that they don’t want to be ruled by Alphas. As if that’s what we do now…”

My eyes rake over the Alpha scholar, wondering about the hierarchy where he comes from. It doesn’t look like he has any back up or help? He’s not leading a group like the Alphas above dwellers do. Like me. Honestly, I don’t even know how it’s decided whether a low dweller Alpha stays underground?

“We wouldn’t have believed you. Plus… there’s the promise of the supplies, provisions, and even more medicine, including Siege suppressants. None of our people want to do without. Do you think that they’d follow through?” My question is hopeful, although I already know what the answer probably is.

“No,” Pup’s shaking his head, glancing around at all the other faces that have moved closer to listen to our discussion. “But that doesn’t mean you couldn’t try? Not with me, of course…” He gives a self-deprecating laugh as he scrubs his hands over his face. “I need to get back to the Omega Gail, and you’ll need to entrust your best Beta to that assignment. You and your Omega will need to come with me.”

I can see the questions and excitement on Sunny’s face as she latches onto my arm. “Oh, great! So, you’ll take me to her?”

CHAPTER TWENTY-SIX

- Sunny

I’M DOZING FITFULLY in our comfy bed that I have piled high with new, clean blankets that Carnell brought in. It’s so strange how folding, arranging, and situating all the bedding around me keeps me occupied. According to Carnell and Truna, who also came by to eat with me earlier, this is all part of being an Omega. It’s also weird to have everybody else know my likes and dislikes better than I do.

Truna brought me a physical
