Royally Chosen Christmas (Royal Sons MC #7) - Elle Boon Page 0,84

her up into his arms, striding over to the large chair facing the fireplace. “She’s going to be so excited. This is the best Christmas ever, baby girl.”

Talena sat on Scott’s lap, feeling like she was on top of the world. She’d made a lot of fucked up decisions in her life but choosing Hollywood and having him chose her as the one he wanted to be with was truly a Christmas miracle. Now they just had to hope their mom didn’t freak out when they told her their happy news.

“Good morning, grandma,” Scott said.

“Are you serious?” Tara cheered.

“Are you okay, Tara?”

“Who the fuck is that?” Scott asked his mother.

“Doc, I’m going to be a Mimi.”

“I’m gonna kill him.” Hollywood tried to get up, but Talena kept her arms around him, hitting the disconnect button.

“Scott, she’s a grown woman who has been alone for a very long time,” she reminded him.

His jaw bunched. “I don’t like it.”

She pressed her lips against his. “She’s excited to be a Mimi.”

“I’m going to be a daddy.”

“Oh yeah you are,” she agreed.

He stood up, keeping hold of her. “We should get a lot of fucking in before the baby gets here. I think I heard that kids cut into sexy times.”

Talena laughed but didn’t utter a protest.

TARA STARED AT THE phone in her hand then over at the man she’d met the evening before. She hadn’t felt a connection to another man in over thirty years, not since she’d met and fell in love with Scott Haven. No other man had ever held a candle to her first husband, the only man she’d ever loved. “This is a miracle,” she whispered, wiping a tear from her cheek.

“You don’t mind your children becoming a couple?”

Her head snapped up, glaring at Doc. “God no. They’re not related by blood and if ever two people belong together and deserve happiness it’s my babies.”

Doc held up his hands, a grin tipping his lips. “I didn’t mean no harm. I agree with you. Your son is a fine young man. While I don’t know much about Talena, I know she must be a remarkable woman if she’s anything like you.”

She held her ground as he moved closer. They’d left the clubhouse last night and went for breakfast at a truck stop along the interstate, spending the night talking, getting to know more about one another. She’d told him more than she’d ever divulged to another human being. Many nights she’d cried herself to sleep, her little dog she’d gotten after Scott’s death for her son became her faithful companion. The only problem with that was he didn’t talk back, but he did let her cuddle him. Of course, like all the men other than her son, Roscoe passed away after fourteen short years and she couldn’t bring herself to get another. Gary of course was against animals, so it hadn’t been an issue.

“Hey where did you go?” Doc brushed his knuckles over her cheek.

She blinked, trying to dispel old anger. “Sorry, I was thinking about old pets.” Which was the truth.

“You should get a guard dog since you live alone in this big house,” Doc said.

He was standing so close she could smell the scent of his cologne and the coffee he’d had. “I’m not sure I could train a dog.”

He smiled, showing off perfect white teeth. “I can help you find one that’s already trained. I know a guy.”

Tara laughed, unable to contain herself at his choice of words. “I swear, anytime I hear a man say those words it spells nothing but trouble, but for some reason I trust you.”

Doc took a deep breath. “That’s good, sweetheart. I want you to trust me. I’m not good at relationships. I’ll be honest with you. I haven’t had what you’d call a relationship since Lennox’s mom passed away. I’m not saying I’ve been celibate, but—” He raked his hand through his hair, holding her gaze.

“I get what you’re saying. I need to tell you I haven’t...I mean, I have been celibate since Scott’s dad was killed.” There, she said it. Her son knew and now this man did. If he walked out because he thought she was a freak, then so be it.

“But you were married again?”

She nodded, letting her silence fill the air.

“She was a cold bitch who didn’t want me touching her, but she’s clearly decided to come out of the deep freeze with the likes of you.”

Tara spun at the sound of Gary’s voice, shock holding
