the rag.” Logan whispers to Easton behind me.
I raise my hand in the air and flick him off. “I heard that, bastard. You can all fuck off tonight. I’m going to party. Alone.”
Fuck them and their righteous ways for thinking they rule everything. Everyone. Everywhere. Fuck ‘em. Their dad’s might be scary as hell, but these guys are nothing but a bunch of high school kids with rulers to their dicks as they fight to have the biggest penis.
Lights and music fade in as I get to Derek’s street.
Glancing over my shoulder, I see the three dicks close behind as they watch me with bored expressions.
I shrug.
Whatever, they can do what they want. I’m going to have a good time, with or without them.
I enter through the front door and see a bunch of kids from school in their usual cliques that make me sick because I belong to none of them.
I head to the kitchen, grabbing a red solo cup with whatever dark liquid is poured inside already sitting on the counter. Derek is a classic Grove kid. His parents are always gone, and his parties have become more frequent this year.
Tenth grade. It’s crazy that we’re all in high school now. The years are going by so fast, and even though it’s only fall, once we all hit sixteen, the years will fly by until graduation.
What will all of us be like once we’re adults. Will we still be friends? Are we all going to grow up living in the park or is someone going to break the cycle? Are we destined to be Grove residents forever?
“Cara?” The thick alcohol in my stomach turns at the chirpy voice of Ellie.
My nostrils flare as I turn around and come face to face with the three bitches of The Grove High.
“Cara! I’m so glad you made it!” Ellie gives me a big smile, which somehow this time looks completely fake. Not only that, but Carrie and Jackie stand behind Ellie and they snicker blatantly in my face. Have they been like this the entire time, and I’ve just been to blind to notice?
Ellie has the fakest fake bleached hair from a box at the supermarket. It’s backcombed overly so and has a huge bump on top of her head. Trashy. Her short skirt shows off the lower creases on her ass, and for a moment I’m glad they stood me up.
Her friends look similar to her, with horribly dyed hair and altered clothes to make them look like strippers instead of high schoolers.
“You stood me up.” I point my cup in Ellie’s direction, and her smile falters a bit. Then it transforms, going from fake bitch to catty whore.
“What did you think? We were just going to pick you up and hangout with us?” She laughs. “Gullible.”
“What was the point of talking to me anyway? Of even asking if I’d want to go? Are you that much of a spineless cunt?”
Carrie and Jackie gasp behind Ellie, and Ellie drops her hands to her waist as her cheeks flame. “I asked because I wanted to see if you were as pathetic as I thought you were. And the way your face lit up when we asked? You. Are. Pathetic. But the funny thing? I didn’t think you would actually come here. But you did. And you came with them. What is it that they see in you, huh? You’re nothing.” She flips her hair over her shoulder, and her cheap perfume makes my nose tickle.
So, this is about the guys.
When I notice silence around me, I look around and see everyone from school staring at us. Some people are looking at me in disgust, and others look at me like I’m nothing. As insignificant as the carpet they’re standing on.
Rage builds in me until arms start shaking, and before I know it, I’m reaching a hand out and grabbing onto Ellie’s hair. I pull with all my strength, hearing a vicious tear and watch as she screams and falls to the floor in front of me.
“You bitch.” She says on her knees in front of me. She wraps her fingers around my arms and digs her nails in until they break the skin. I scream, then feel a slap across the face. Jackie stands in front of me in anger. I’m shocked it took so long for her minions to step up, actually.
I rip my arms out of Ellie’s grasp, her nails tearing deep gouges down my forearms. Pushing Jackie in
