to have formed an opinion. The correct opinion, no doubt.

“Okay, well, what does he want from you? Why has he turned up after all these years?”

I look away from my best friend because I know she can already read what’s on my mind.

“He wants to win me back. He said he wants a second chance. That he made a huge mistake and that he’s spent all these years trying to forget about me, but he can’t.”

“And you believe him?” Kim asks, pursing her lips.

“I don’t know what to believe, Kim. We were good together. I thought it was love at first sight.”

“Yeah, but it was all a lie,” she replies.

I’m not sorry it happened. I have no interest in apologizing for how amazing that was. It was even more amazing than I imagined it would be. Blaire is beautiful; her body is heavenly. I want more, and for the past two days, I have thought of nothing else.

She put a stop to it prematurely. I didn’t even get to have my turn! Honestly, though, I’d be happy just pleasuring her over and over again if that is what she wants. If that is the only way she’ll let me touch her again. I know I sound stir-crazy and desperate, but this is just how I feel.

I can’t focus at work, and I’m trying hard to pay attention to Anya at home, but I know I’m neglecting her. I’m sure Rachel has noticed too. This isn’t my daughter’s fault. It’s Blaire’s.

If only she wasn’t so fuckin’ sexy. So fuckin’ perfect.

“How do you feel about a sleepover at granny’s place tonight?” I ask Anya when we’re walking home from the playground. I have managed to get away from work early because we haven’t spent enough time together lately. Rachel replied to my text to say she was taking Anya to the park, so I decided to meet them there.

“Really, Daddy? Can I really?” she asks excitedly.

By granny, I mean Nicola’s mom. Anya has spent a lot of time with her grandmother because Nicola forged a close relationship between them. Her granny is probably the last invisible thread she has left of her mother. I have made sure to keep that connection going. I don’t want Anya to ever think that I’m trying to disconnect her from her mother’s memory or her family.

“Sure thing. I’ll take you over there once we get home and changed. Maybe we’ll eat dinner together first?” I suggest.

Okay, this isn’t just about Anya’s relationship with her grandmother. I know I need some time to myself. Just to re-wire all the loose ends in my brain. Don’t all parents need to do this in order to be better carers to their kids?

Anya is happy and holds my hand as we walk home. She is excited to see her grandmother, and I am excited for her. We eat dinner, and then I help her with her bath and help her pack.

When I drive her over to Lucy’s place, they are both so happy to see each other that I know I’m doing the right thing. Right now, I’m not giving Anya my full attention, which she deserves. So I’m providing her with the next best thing possible.

I don’t know what I’m going to do with my free time tonight, but I’m looking forward to it. Hopefully, I can come up with something that will help me get over Blaire for good. Help me move on.

I have a bottle of champagne in my hand while I knock on Blaire’s door. I’m not even sure if she’s home tonight. As far as I can tell, she has a pretty busy social life.

I don’t want to think about the guy who was in her office that morning.

Blaire eventually opens the door. She’s wearing a long floral skirt and a crop top. She has her hair tied in a ponytail. Big gold hoops on her ears. That same damned gloss on her lips!

“Looks like I caught you at the right time,” I say. My body jolts when I first see her because I haven’t set eyes on her in a while. I’m like an addict getting a hit of their favorite soul-crushing drug.

Blaire smooths her dark hair behind her ears.

“Yeah, I just got back from dinner with some friends.”

“Lucky friends,” I remark and hold the bottle out towards her.

“I was under the assumption that my company over a meal annoys you,” she says and takes the bottle from me. “What’s this for?” She glances
