His Apprehensive Mate - Brea Alepou Page 0,81
with his mate. Indigo gave him a tight smile before focusing back on Logan, and that was his cue to leave. Morgan stood up from the medical bench and was instantly hit with a wave of dizziness. Strong hands caught him before he fell.
A growl from behind him had the fine hairs on Morgan’s neck standing up. He pulled his arm free of Indigo and took a step away from the other man, making sure that Logan knew that he wasn’t making a move on his mate. Morgan knew it was illogical—they all did—but no one could ignore the way the mating call made them possessive and overprotective of their mates. Not initially at least.
“Sorry,” Morgan whispered.
Logan blew out a harsh breath. “Don’t be sorry. My stupid lynx overreacted. It wasn’t your fault.” Logan gave him a tight smile that didn’t quite reach his eyes.
“Logan, we need to tal—”
“We need nothing, because there isn’t a we. You made that painfully clear before.”
Little feet pattered into the room. “Daddy,” Gabriella called out.
Gabriella came in with her too adorable button nose and chestnut brown curls. It was probably her fourth outfit change of the day, she was sporting bright neon leggings with rainboots and white shirt with flowers. She gave Morgan the biggest smile and ran up to him with her arms stretched out. She’d only been with them for a little bit, yet she had taken to everyone with ease. Her favorite person was none other than the man who was currently being super grumpy.
“Loggy,” Gabriella squealed once she saw him. She passed Morgan, forgetting all about his hug, and ran straight into Logan’s arms.
It was like the tension instantly bled out of Logan at the sight of Gabriella. He picked her up and hugged her. Indigo’s face softened, and Morgan saw the way he watched Logan and Gabriella; it was pure love. It was the way fated mates looked at each other. But Indigo had been there two weeks already and Logan wasn’t budging.
Morgan caught Indigo’s attention while Logan was busy talking to Gabriella about her day of tea parties with Ava, Samantha, and Dillan. Morgan moved right outside the door. If Logan wanted to, he would be able to hear them with ease. Shifter hearing didn’t leave much to privacy, but still Morgan wanted to talk to Indigo.
“He’s really good with her,” Indigo said. His eyes went all swoony as he stared at Logan and his daughter.
Morgan felt right more than ever. “Then you need to work to get your mate.”
Indigo sighed, his shoulders sagging with the effort. “I’m trying, but he ran away once. Wha—”
“He isn’t running now. In fact—” Morgan glanced into the room and pitched his voice down to barely a whisper. “—Dezi and Kash asked him if it was okay if you stayed before giving Kenny the okay.”
Indigo stood up straight, shock clear on his face. “He said yes? Wai— Are you sure?”
Morgan nodded. “Kenny wouldn’t lie to me, but just a pointer. Logan loves coffee with sweet flavored creamers. Anything sugary is his favorite snack. In fact, Kash might be able to help best with that.” Morgan remembered something about a subscription Kenny had. “I’ll talk to Kenny. There’s a special coffee place that Kenny orders from to stay on Logan’s good side.”
Indigo stared at Morgan for a second. “Why help me?”
Morgan glanced in once more at Gabriella and Logan. They both were laughing, and it was amazing. Logan was his friend, and Morgan wanted him to be happy.
“I see how you both are suffering being so close but not together. I know what it’s like to deny my mate our bond, and I will never get back the time we should have had, but he didn’t give up on me and, well, you know.” Morgan could feel the blush creeping up his face.
Indigo gave him a toothy grin. “Thanks, and you’re right. I won’t give up on him. I made the mistake of pushing him away once and letting him run away before I saw the error of my ways. But never again. I’m determined to make him mine.”
“Get home already,” Dezi said over the phone.
Kenny wanted to hold Morgan in his arms, but as of late they’d been so busy with pride stuff that their private investigator office was a little bit of a mess. Mail had piled up and files hadn’t been put away properly. Kenny groaned. He didn’t dare walk into the back room where they kept most of the
