His Apprehensive Mate - Brea Alepou Page 0,82
files. It was Rhy’s job to fix it, and he doubted it would be anything he’d be able to navigate.
“We live in a small town. We don’t get crazy amounts of requests, so how much mail could there be?” Dezi asked.
Kenny was currently looking at a desk full. Dezi had a point. It wasn’t as if they were overflowing with business, but they did have quite a few requests. Maybe it was time to let it go. They had originally started the PI business because they wanted to help people but stay their own bosses, but now with mates and their families growing, where was the time?
“We have a few stocks, but maybe it’s time to figure something else out,” Kenny suggested.
Dezi was quiet for a second. “Maybe. Logan is pretty set on being the pride doctor. If he isn’t working, he’s studying.”
“He hasn’t been at the office lately. The same coffee bag is here from the last time I stopped by two weeks ago.”
With Logan around, they had become accustomed to buying more coffee every three to four days depending on his mood.
“Rhy is reluctant to leave Dillan and Samantha for a long period of time,” Dezi said.
“Clyde and Cole come here, but I guess we’ll have to ask them what they want to do. It’s not fair if we leave all the work to them.”
Dezi grunted. They were back at square one. Kenny sighed.
“Once I’m finished with the paperwork here, I’ll be back home.”
“Oh yeah, I called you for a reason. Morgan is—”
“What’s wrong?” Kenny asked, standing up so fast a few pieces of paper flew off his desk.
“Nothing’s wrong,” Dezi rushed to answer. “Snow leopards are so jumpy.”
Kenny ignored his friend’s comment. “My mate?”
“And impatient.”
“Dezi,” Kenny growled, already stacking up the papers neatly so he could head home.
There was a staticky noise over the phone, and Kenny had to pull it away a little bit.
“You can’t say anything.” Kash’s words were muffled, but Kenny still heard them.
He was already locking up his office and heading toward the door. He needed to get home. He checked the bond and didn’t get anything, maybe a trickle of anxiety but mostly happiness.
“I’m on my way home.”
“Apparently if I say anything more there will be no dessert for me for—”
“Two months,” Kash shouted.
Dezi groaned. “Well, at least you’re on your way home.”
Kash chastised Dezi some more before the sound of a baby crying distracted them. Kenny was happy Kash was mated to Dezi. The cougar shifter obviously knew how to handle him. Kenny hung the phone up and drove the longest thirty minutes ever to get back to the pride house.
Kenny walked into the house and didn’t have to look around for Morgan. He knew instinctively his mate was upstairs in their shared room. Kenny climbed up the steps two at a time and opened his bedroom door. He found Morgan on the bed fidgeting, so lost in thought that when he heard Kenny he jumped.
“Oh, you’re home early,” Morgan said, chewing on his bottom lip. He avoided Kenny’s eyes, and the anxiety Kenny had been feeling through the bond before increased. He shut the door behind him as he strode into the room. He pulled Morgan into his arms.
“What’s wrong?”
Morgan inhaled his scent, and they stood there for a bit before Morgan pushed back, still not quite looking Kenny in the eyes.
“Uh, there’s something I need to tell you.”
Kenny wasn’t sure what could possibly have Morgan feeling so anxious, but he stayed calm.
“You can tell me anything,” Kenny said reassuringly.
Morgan finally looked him in the eye. “Yeah, you’re right.” He blew out a breath. “I know that. You’re you.” Morgan seemed to give himself some type of mental pep talk.
“You might want to sit down,” Morgan suggested.
Not willing to let his mate go, Kenny sat them both on the bed. Morgan didn’t pull away; in fact, he snuggled closer, taking comfort in Kenny’s arms.
“I’m, um—pregnant.”
Kenny sat there stunned for a second. He’d had his speculations, but he hadn’t been sure, and now Morgan was telling him they were going to have a baby. Kenny didn’t respond fast enough, and Morgan shrunk back a little.
“Are you ang—”
Kenny stood up with his pregnant mate in his arms—pregnant with their child—and swung him around, and laughter bubbled up out of Morgan. The sound was so sweet and beautiful, Kenny could listen to it on repeat for hours.
“I am elated.”
He stopped spinning them around to kiss his mate, delving his tongue into his warm
