snaps and you can see the red coating her cheeks as she becomes frustrated.

“I know you aren’t Fairy girl but I’m not about to let you do anything that could cause you to hurt the baby. You might be past the first trimester but all the same. I'm gonna make sure you get to your due date without any problems. Got me?” Damn you got to love a man who is so protective. Then again, he lost my sister the day Melody was born so I can see his reasoning for acting this way.

“Just let him do it, Bethany. He’s not going to give in,” I murmur coming to Chaz’s defense.

Bethany glances from Chaz to me and then back again. She’s always been an open book, right now being no different as it dawns on her his reasoning. Finally, with a sigh Bethany nods her head. “Okay fine, but don’t think I’m going to be letting you carry me everywhere or making me stay in the bed like I’m helpless. Because I’m perfectly healthy and nothing is going to happen to me.”

“You’re damn straight nothing’s gonna happen to you,” Chaz states firmly, taking the vase completely out of Bethany’s hands.

As Chaz leaves the room, the attention turns back toward me and I wish I could fall in a hole as I meet Tanner’s angry gaze.

He’s pissed as hell about this. Granted he’s touched me but it hasn’t been like before, which really sucks. All I want is my life back and that’s not going to happen until this is all sorted. Then again will he still want me. Or think I’m too much of a headache to deal with.

“We need to get into rehearsal,” Hunter announces breaking the silence.

“Yeah, we’ve got that gig coming up this weekend at Outlaws and I think we should try out some of the new stuff. See what the fans think,” Lex suggests.

“Let’s get to it then,” Tanner states, leaning in to kiss my cheek before heading into the studio.

Feelings of uncertainty fill me as I think about everything that’s surrounding me. Can’t I finally have a drama free life? One filled with nothing but happiness.

When my phone rings, I nearly jump out of my skin. Glancing down at the screen, I groan. It’s Lori. I sigh as I pick my phone up and answer.

“Hello.”

“Alexis,” she sobs, and I stiffen. I don’t remember ever hearing her cry for anything. Not even when she broke her arm.

“Lori, what’s wrong?” I ask.

“I–I–I w–was j–just attacked and didn’t know who else to call. C–Can you please come get me? T–They t–took m–my purse,” she says between sobs of tears.

“Yeah, where are you? I’ll be right there,” I murmur and wait for her to tell me. When she does, I hang up and head toward the front of the shop with my keys in hand without saying anything to anyone.

I know I should have told the guys I was leaving considering everything right now, but I can’t leave Lori in the lurch either. Not when she has been hurt. We may not be the best of friends anymore but that does not mean I won’t help her.

Chapter 15

Tanner

Fuming, from reading the note I know I hurt Alexis’ feelings and I feel shitty for it. Can you blame me though? There is a stalker out there demanding she hand herself over to them and if I let her out of my sight, I’m sure that’s exactly what she’ll do.

Unfortunately, at the same time I need a moment away from her. Questions begin to form in my head at the idea this person is a part of Alexis’ life and that being said does my wife have the same beliefs of what this unknown thinks. Some of the notes have been very personal in talking about who she’s with, a black man instead of a white one.

The only thing I’ve noticed so far is this person doesn’t realize Alexis and I are married. So, it can’t be someone we know from around here.

At least I don’t think.

I’ve racked my head trying to figure out who this is and keep coming up empty. The only person I know who hates the fact I’d been with Alexis was her friend Lori, but she couldn’t have pulled something like this off.

Then there’s the guys who jumped me wanting me to pay my father’s debts off. I haven’t heard from them since that day, but it doesn’t mean I would let my guard down where
