on her face. Siena released her glass, and it hit the floor and shattered, red wine going everywhere.
“Carter? What the fuck? You really think I’m going to let you take these women?” Angel said.
“I never liked your filthy mouth and sure as hell hated how you constantly fucked up my missions. Which you still seem to be a part of. I can’t tell you how surprised I was when Rock and Buddy told me who showed up to save Hudson’s life. That cost me a ton of money.”
The man Angel had called Carter moved forward so quickly Siena didn’t have time to get out of the way. The cold tip of the gun was pressed against her side. Angel reached for her drawer, but the skinny man narrowed his beady eyes at her. “Don’t even think about it, sister.”
“Ha.” Angel barked out. “I was never your sister. I still don’t understand why my sister married you. This is between you and me. How many years have you been running from me?”
Siena remembered Angel talking about the man who’d betrayed her. Now one of the women she’d helped keep safe had betrayed her too—one of the people Hudson had risked his life to save. Angel told her that her ex betrayed her and helped Carter. When Carter got what he wanted, he killed her ex.
Siena felt the grip of the man holding her loosen for a second, and she used her training to push his gun away and hit down on his arm. The gun slid across the room and under the couch. The guy Angel had called Rock swung his fist and hit Siena in the face. She fell to the floor, and her vision swayed.
“You guys are pigs,” Angel said. “Three men had to come after these girls. I’m not even sure how you got hold of Tamara.”
“You never stop talking. As for this one, she contacted us the second she was in the states. Getting Buddy and Rock back into the country wasn’t as easy as planned since your boss has more connections than any civilian I know. Makes me wonder who the real Xavier is.” He took a step toward Yara.
Angel stepped in front of her. “Xavier will kill you if you lay a hand on any of us.”
All three men’s eyes were on Angel. They weren’t paying attention to Siena, who slid to the side and crawled behind the counter. She slowly opened a drawer and grabbed a knife, working through the pain from being punched in the mouth. Blood dripped down her face.
Angel opened her hand. It seemed her friend had seen her move.
“If you even think about taking that knife, I’ll put a bullet in Tamara’s head. My employer doesn’t care if I bring her back alive or in a body bag. The other two, he said, I should make sure I kill. And, bitch, stand up before I put a bullet in Angel’s head.”
Siena closed her eyes and took a deep breath before she stood. She kept the large carving knife in her hand. Now closer to the man, she could see the madness in his eyes. It was a darkness unlike anything she’d seen. There was no doubt in her mind that he would kill them all. And she hated the fact that she’d left her phone at her house.
The asshole wasn’t very large, but the two men with him were twice her size. And they all had guns, making the fight almost impossible. Angel would need a distraction. What assassin didn’t keep guns lying around her house? In the TV shows she watched, they all did.
Hudson would kill her for this later, but it was her only option. Siena flung herself across the counter headfirst at the scrawny man. At least she was taking on someone close to her size. Chaos broke out. She heard yelling and grunts, but the only thing Siena concentrated on was the man she was going after.
His gun dropped from his hands. He twisted on the floor to get it, but Siena punched him in the side. Her knuckles hurt as her fist connected with his ribs. He shot his leg out, trying to push her off him, but she doubled down and punched again.
With strength she didn’t expect the smaller guy to have, he flipped her to the side and yanked her hair as she tried to crawl over and grab the gun. A scream erupted from her throat as he jerked her head back.
