on earth.

I walk the library, taking in everything, and get lost for hours. Discovering the books held in this beauty, some so old, it makes me wonder just how old Leviathan is.

“Remy?” I hear my voice called out in the distance and sigh, even if it is Everly, I’d just started to get lost in the book I’d picked up, sitting in a chair towards the back, right by a window, so relaxing.

“I’m back here,” I call out, knowing she’ll find me sooner rather than later. I make a note of my place in the book and put it down on the table beside me. I move to stand, to go and find her, when she pops around the corner.

“There you are, dear! I was just going to get started on dinner, and I wondered if there was anything in particular you wanted.” She sits beside me and pats my knee, smiling at me softly. “I used to get lost in here for hours too. You will find the knowledge in this library is more than you could imagine.”

“There’s just so much!” I sigh wistfully. “As for dinner, I’m pretty easy. Whatever Leviathan wants is good with me.”

“You pair are as bad as each other.” She tuts and shakes her head, and I can’t help but laugh. “The boy said the exact same thing. Well, now I shall pick, and you’ll both just have to like it.”

“I’m sure whatever it is, we’ll love every bite.” I wink at her with a smile.

“Hmm, maybe I’ll cook haggis or something,” she says with a wicked smile before laughing. “Or not, because, no.”

I can’t help but chuckle. Our laughter joins and echoes in the big space. “Honestly, I’m not fussy. It’s been a while since I had someone cook for me, so anything is a step up from me ordering a pizza or making mac and cheese from a box.”

The look of horror on her face is enough to make me laugh again.

“From a box… Well I never.”

“You should try it. It’s good,” I tease her, and she stands.

“I think I know exactly what I’ll be making this evening. From a box… I mean, really,” she huffs at me.

“I’m sorry?” I shrug and shake my head as she walks away from me. I pick my book back up and decide to lose myself in it again for the rest of the afternoon.

After immersing myself in the library the whole day, the smells from the kitchen drag me out of my book. Which is how I find myself hovering in the doorway of the kitchen again, watching as Everly and Leviathan bounce around the room. He’s tasting something, while she prepares a salad. It’s kind of adorable. They’ve obviously known each other a while.

“You staring again?” Leviathan looks up at me, and I smile back. I like this relaxed side of him, much better than the angry him from this morning, or the tense him from the other night.

“It’s cute, watching you guys cook,” I say, and join them at the island counter while they work.

“If you want to pour us all a glass of wine, there’s a white chilling in the fridge by your feet,” Everly tells me, and I look down to see there’s a wine fridge by my feet, who even has a wine fridge! This place literally has everything. I bend down and grab a bottle of white, then pull three glasses from the rack on the far wall.

“So, what’s for dinner anyway?” I ask as I pour.

“Mac and cheese, homemade garlic bread, and salad. Not from a box.” She practically scowls at me, and I burst out laughing.

“I look forward to it. I haven’t had homemade mac since I was thirteen.” A twinge of sadness hits me as I think about my mom. How amazing she was in the kitchen. That it’s because of her mac and cheese became my favorite comfort food. “Nothing mac and cheese can’t fix,” she’d tell me.

They both give me a minute, going about serving dinner as I place the glasses of wine on the table. “Sit down, we’ll bring it over.”

Levi looks at me, his face stern, and his eyes darken, almost daring me to disobey so I sit and take a sip of the wine. Not my usual drink, but then, nothing about my life at the minute is my usual. Everly brings over two bowls, one full of garlic bread sticks, the other salad, sits next to me, and squeezes my
