A Crown Of Smoke And Ash - Sloane Murphy Page 0,121
and then the others feel weird or left out. I know I’m selling my apartment, so maybe I’ll just buy my own place and we can do sleepovers.
Problems for future Remy.
This Remy has enough to deal with.
I shower and dress quickly, trying to think about what we’re going to say, how we’re going to do this, and coming up at a loss. Because how do you tell someone their life was ripped away from them so callously, what if they don’t even want that life back? Maybe I’m being selfish by even thinking about it.
They wouldn’t have had the awakening, and despite the fact I started remembering without it, doesn’t mean that they would’ve. They could be living happily in their ignorant bliss. I could be about to blow up their worlds for my own gains. Well, I mean, it’s for the benefit of everyone, but still.
God, I sound like a whiny bitch.
I square my shoulders and head out to find Levi. This needs to be done. I might be blowing up lives, but I could be saving hundreds of thousands more. These people deserve to remember who they are; what they are. That much is clear as day.
I find Levi doing push ups in the sitting room, so I lean on the archway and just watch him. Is it a productive use of my time? Not at all, and yet, I have no regrets.
“Enjoying yourself, Angel?” He smirks up at me as he holds a plank position, almost effortlessly, the ass.
“I am, no need to stop on my account. Please, keep going.” He finishes his reps and jumps to his feet, coming to stand before me, towering over me.
“You sure you don’t want to rethink that shower?” A tingle runs down my spine at the proposition, but I shake my head. Much as my vagina might protest, we’ve got things to do.
“Anyone would think you’re trying to keep me distracted, General.” I fold my arms, aware it pushes up my cleavage in my tank, it distracts him and a smile plays on my face.
“Not at all, Angel. I just missed you.” His eyes rake over me like hot coals, and my skin breaks out in goosebumps.
“I missed you too, but this is important. We’ve got time after we get this craziness sorted to, er… catch up.”
He laughs at me and runs his knuckle down my cheek. “I’m going to hold you to that Angel. Now come on, we’ve got some Hunters to rally.”
We fly for what feels like forever before he’s bringing us down in front of a farmhouse. Thank god for that spell from Fallon, because an Angel rocking up to your door, wings out, yeah, I can imagine that would be all kinds of terrifying. Levi tucks away his wings while I pat down my hair before we knock on the door.
Just knocking on the door like all of this this just a normal situation, not like we’re going to blow up their lives.
I roll my eyes at the simplicity of it, and knock. I hear children screaming and playing inside, before the door opens and I find a tired, exasperated blonde woman staring up at me. She’s so tiny, and beautiful. She looks like one of the dolls people tried to force on me to play with as a child. Her eyes go wide as takes in the menacing brute behind me, and I jab him with my elbow to remind him to smile. Poor woman looks all kinds of terrified, but she fixes her smile, and brushes back her hair, as if she’s not shaken at all.
“Morning y’all, everything okay? How I can help you?” Her heavy twang makes me smile.
“Hi, sorry to just drop by, but are you Annabeth Peters?” I say softly, trying not to spook her any more than she already is. “Sorry, my name is Remy, and this hulking softie is Levi. We’re looking for Annabeth and Theodore Peters.”
“Yes, that’s me and my husband, he’s just out the back. How can I help you?”
“We have some delicate matters to discuss with yourself and your husband about your family.” I tell her softly
“Oh my. Do you want to come in?”
“If you wouldn’t mind, that would be great,” I reply.
“Okay, well y’all come on it, and I’ll yell for Teddy.” She waves us into the hall before shooting off through the house. Three sets of eyes all stare at us from around the corner, I guess that’s the kids we read about in
