A Crown Of Fire And Wrath (The Shadow Walkers Saga #5) - Sloane Murphy Page 0,86
The three of us plus Leviathan, that’s how is been since I joined the team. He’s being ridiculous.”
“Trust me, I’m very aware of it.”
“Well don’t just be aware of it, fucking fix it.” She turns on her heel and storms from the tent, her dirty blonde hair flying out behind her.
Shit.
I knew it was bad, I mean, I’ve been jittery as fuck being behind the lines, not being able to help them, but if Serafina is shook, then something is really wrong. She’s a fucking ice queen, and we rarely see eye to eye, so for her to come to me directly… Yeah it’s bad.
I take a deep breath and leave the tent in search of Leviathan, and walk smack into a hard chest. I look up and see Nevin, his hands on my shoulder, keeping me steady. The bombardment is still going on, but if Nevin and Serafina are back here, that means Leviathan must be too.
“I was coming to find you,” Nevin says with a sad smile.
“Everything okay?” I ask.
“No, we need you, Amantara. It’s a fucking shit show. Serafina and Leviathan are going to kill each other if you’re not there to even them out. He can’t even seem to focus on the strategy, because he’s worried about you. It’s insane. Come back to us.” He takes my hands and squeezes.
“I’m trying.” I give him a small smile and kiss his cheek. “Where is he?”
“He wouldn’t leave the lines, you know how he is.”
I sigh at his words and shake my head. “That I do. Come on then, take me to where you left him. Let’s get this shit resolved.”
My shoulders tighten with anxiety. Facing off against the Archangel of War isn’t fun for anyone. Even me. Even if he does love me. Sometimes that makes it harder, because he is so fierce about protecting me, that he’s literally impossible.
It’s impossible to ignore the screams from both sides as we move through the chaos. I’m still surprised that Gabe didn’t want to come and join the fight. He loves creating a little extra chaos, and we could really use his soul destroyer tricks.
Hell, at this point, I’d take any extra help, but I know it’s not coming. Michael didn’t want us interfering as it was, and Leviathan only got him to agree by limiting the amount of interference in the human world. We’ve already gone way beyond the realms of our agreement. Granting humans some partial angelic power to help our numbers was genius but it’s also definitely going to piss some people off. But that’s a problem for the future, and also, totally not my problem. It’s not like they’ll live forever, the problem will resolve itself eventually.
I bring my mind back to the here and now as Nevin runs beside me, protecting me by using himself as a shield as we get closer to Leviathan’s position. I can see him from here, giving out orders, but everyone looks frazzled. We might not need as much sleep as humans, but three days is still a long time, especially with everything going on around us.
“Leviathan!” I call out but he’s already watching me, as if he sensed me coming, even amongst the anarchy. It doesn’t take more than a minute till I’m in front of him and wrapped in his arms.
“What are you doing here?” he asks, his eyes wild. “Is everything okay?” He pulls back and looks me over, and I raise my hands to his chest.
“I’m fine. Everything's fine,” I say and take a deep breath. “Well, almost fine. You need to let me come back to the front lines. Look at you, you’re a mess. You’re not taking care of yourself, and it’s driving me nuts back there, I cannot access that healing power, no matter how hard I focus.”
He looks me over again, his narrowed eyes shoot over my shoulder to where a silent Nevin stands. “Did he put you up to this?” He almost sounds jealous, which is fucking insane. Nevin is like a brother to me.
“No, Leviathan.” I reach up and grasp his chin, pulling his face down and his gaze back to me. “I want this. Please don’t push me away. I need to be here with you. With the team.”
“Fine.” He lets out a sigh and softens against me momentarily.
“Now, you need to go and rest, and fucking eat something,” I tell him with my hand still clasping his chin. “I’ve got this covered.”
