A Crown Of Fire And Wrath (The Shadow Walkers Saga #5) - Sloane Murphy Page 0,85

stay, little bird. But if you need me, you know how to get in touch. I’ll be keeping an eye out too. Be safe.” I remove myself from Roman’s grasp and move across the kitchen to hug Michael.

“Thank you for everything,” I tell him softly, as he hugs me back even tighter.

“It was nothing. You know you don’t need to thank me,” Michael says lowly, watching me closely. “I’ll always be here for you, Remy. Always. No matter what.” His eyes flick up to Roman across the room with his final words, before he releases me and takes a step back. He nods over to Roman, and then heads out of the back door. There’s a brief flash of light, and then he’s gone.

I sit at the counter, and Roman pours me another drink while getting himself one, when Kain and Creek appear together. “Fallon portal you guys home?”

“She did,” Creek says with a smile, kissing me before he goes to get himself a beer from the fridge, and Kain comes to sit beside me.

“Nonnie get back alright?” I ask him as I lean into him and rest my head on his shoulder.

“She did, though she felt very guilty for leaving you.” He kisses the top of my head. I sigh contentedly and stay tucked up against him while the guys talk, but Roman doesn’t really explain much, because we know that Levi will be back soon.

It takes about twenty minutes, and the timer on the oven dings just as Levi walks into the room, so we serve dinner, and no one dies, even if there is the odd comment about too much cheese. Straight up blasphemy if you ask me. Once we get cleared away, Levi clears his throat and pins Roman with his stare. “So, you have news?”

“I do. It took some pretty persuasion, but that’s always been my favorite kind. Laurent told us that he wasn’t the only Lycan working against us. I’ve already sent word to Theron but I have a feeling that Aryna and the other Lycans he told us about will have already scattered and gone to ground.”

“That’s great. One less thing to worry about,” Creek says, clapping Roman on the shoulder.

“That’s not all he told us. He mentioned a name that I think you’ll all be very interested in…” Roman says, pausing to the point where I want to throw my glass at his head.

“Who?” I ask, unable to wait any longer.

“Amelia.”

Three fucking days.

That’s how long this bombardment from the demons has been going on, I’m not sure how much longer we can sustain it. Even with all of the power we have over here with the Death Dealers, they have numbers on their side, and there’s only so many times that Leviathan can unleash that monstrous power inside of him before he’s wiped out. I see him after he uses it, and it hurts my heart to see him so tired, so drained, but so unrelenting. He is the first one out there, and the last to return. He doesn’t ask of others what he isn’t willing to give himself.

It’s what makes us all willing to follow him to the ends of existence. I finish cleaning the blood from my hands, I’ve been helping in the medical bay because Leviathan thought I could try and use some of my healing powers here. He knows how much I struggle to bring that particular power to life, and this time has been no different. There is just something in me that doesn’t seem to connect with that particular ability, even if every Shadow Walker in existence has had it. I’ve not been that much use here.

“I thought I’d find you back here.” Serafina’s voice is harsh as she pushes into the medical tent and storms over to me.

“Well, this is where I’ve been relegated to.” I shrug, I’m not going to hide my unhappiness about it. I’d much rather be out there with the rest of them. “What’s up?”

“We need you out there. You have got to speak to Leviathan about this insanity. You’re our best archer. We’re losing more ground and he’s just being fucking stubborn about it.” She huffs as she folds her arms and I roll my eyes at her.

“You think I haven’t tried talking to him? You said it yourself. He’s a stubborn ass.”

“It’s so stupid. And Nevin has been fretting about you the entire time. It’s weird not having you with us. Our team just doesn’t function the same.
