A Crown Of Fire And Wrath (The Shadow Walkers Saga #5) - Sloane Murphy Page 0,87
but then he smirks at me. “Okay, hellion. I’ll go and grab a quick bite and a nap, but you bet your ass I’ll be back soon.”
“I had no doubt.” I smile and release his chin as he cups my nape before kissing me, his tongue tangling with mine. A moan slips from me, and he pulls back, smirk firmly in place.
Roman’s revelation last night turned Levi into the war machine that he is. There has been no sleep, and a flurry of activity, barked orders, and general mayhem since the words registered with him. Nevin and Serafina have been with him in the kitchen since the early hours of this morning, and despite Michael reinstating me as a Death Dealer, the whole strategy thing was never really my bag.
I peer into the kitchen to see if it’s safe to get coffee, and they’re all still standing around the table, with the biggest map I’ve ever seen.
“Clara, the witch, can we track her? She’ll be easier to find than Amelia if she’s in hiding. She was always the best ghost we had, she knew exactly how to disappear, but a witch’s power is an easy trace,” Serafina asks them.
“Erm…” I say as I round the doorway. “If she’s a witch won’t she be dead by now?” Serafina rolls her eyes at me like I just said the most stupid thing in the world.
“Some witches have access to power that can extend their lifespan. It’s not practiced so much any longer, and it takes a severe amount of magic, and has an equally severe cost, but it’s possible. And someone of Clara’s level… it’s definitely possible that she could still be as alive as you or I,” Levi explains, and my eyes go wide, as the fragments of a memory come to me. He’s not lying, not that I would’ve thought he was, but I already knew this, I just didn’t remember.
“Right, of course,” I say as my cheeks heat. “So, can you track her?”
“We likely can,” Nevin answers as I move farther into the room. “We’d need a witch though.”
“Well, we have plenty of witches, but Fallon would help in a heartbeat,” I tell them.
“Then she’ll do,” he says, barely even looking at me as he speaks.
“What is the plan when we find her?” I ask, because as we know, killing an angel, not that easy, and I daresay if she’s evaded capture for this long, she’s not as helpless as she once seemed.
“We kill her,” Levi says, with no hesitation, and no remorse. “She has come after us and ours too many times, we’ve lost too much. There is no mercy for her once we find her.”
“Levi…” Serafina starts, but he cuts her off with the shake of his head.
“No. Michael will back me on this one. We find her, and she dies, before she has chance to kill anyone else.”
“And how, do you propose we do that?” Nevin asks. “It’s not like we have an abundance of ways to kill her.”
Levi looks over to me, and a shiver runs down my spine. He wants to use my shadow fire, I know it. Though I’m shocked he’d even think about letting me that close to her, considering how protective he’s been of late.
“Morgan,” Levi says, still looking at me, telling me silently that he’s lying. “Her and the Horsemen have walls and walls of angel glass on level six. I have no doubt they’ll lend a hand when they find out we know who is behind everything.”
“Of course, the Shadow Queen… of course she’ll help.” Serafina rolls her eyes as the sarcasm rolls from her. “You guys really do make some fucked up friends.”
“Hey!” I start, but Levi stops me.
“Enough, you two. We don’t have time for this, we need to get Fallon, and then we head out to scout.” His voice is low and demanding and does all sorts of scandalous things to me.
“What about the rest of us?” I ask.
“Nothing, nothing else happens until we know for sure. The last thing we want is word of what we know getting out,” he tells us all, and without saying a word, he storms from the room.
“I guess I’ll text Fallon,” I mutter, and head in the direction Levi left, because there is no way I’m staying behind with those two. I don’t have the patience required to stick around for their bickering. They’re like brother and sister, they wind each other up beyond compare and it drives me
