A Crown Of Fire And Wrath (The Shadow Walkers Saga #5) - Sloane Murphy Page 0,35

it, so I wasn’t to know that he still thought you hung the moon. That being said, I’ll try my best not to keep anything from you from now.”

“Thank you.” I move towards him and kiss his cheek.

“Was that everything?” Creek asks, smiling cheekily at me.

“Pretty much.” I shrug.

“Awesome, because I have plans for us today.” He rushes me and lifts me from my feet, running from the gym with me in his arms, with shouts following from behind us while I laugh.

“What’s your big surprise?” I ask, as Creek tucks me into the passenger seat of his truck and puts my buckle on. He just smiles at me and closes the door before making his way around and climbing in the cab beside me. “You’re not going to tell me?”

“Wouldn’t be a surprise if I told you, would it?” His grin is infectious, and I feel one of my own spread across my face.

“You know how I feel about surprises,” I huff, but it doesn’t quite land thanks to my smile.

“I know you pretend to not like them, because you’re nosy as fuck and just want to know everything ever in the universe.” He laughs as he backs up and heads out of the drive of the manor.

“Pfft.”

He shakes his head, still laughing at me and my fake outrage. “Remy, I’ve known you way too long for you to even begin to try that. Now sit there, and be a good girl.” He winks at me, and the temptation to show him just how much of a good girl I am is so fucking real, but I sit on my hands to stop them from straying. I think he needs this as much as I do, a day, just the two of us, doing random shit. Though, I don’t know that it’s random shit, because he won’t fucking tell me what’s going on!

He turns the radio up and starts singing to the Sam Hunt song playing, and my grin turns cheesy as he basically serenades me while he drives. He might usually opt out of karaoke, because my guy can be shy, but he has absolutely no reason to, because damn he can sing. I lean back in the seat and close my eyes, just listening as he sings to each song as it changes on the radio, letting the rumble of the engine soothe me along with it.

We drive for nearly an hour when the car pulls to a stop. I open my eyes, and realize we’re at a gas station. I look over at Creek who is just smiling at me. “Do you want anything?”

“No, I’m good.” He watches me and then shakes his head before climbing out of the truck. I have no idea where we are, I don’t recognize the gas station, but I trust Creek, so I don’t freak out. Though he’s right, I really am nosy, and I really would like to know where the hell it is that we’re going. It’s not long before he climbs back into the truck, and we keep going on the very twisty road up in the mountains.

I really have no idea where it is that we’re going, but Creek seems so relaxed, that I try not to overthink it. Which, for me, is an enormous task, but I lean back in the chair again and just watch the scenery pass me by, as Creek intertwines his fingers with mine. He squeezes my hand gently, and smiles when I glance over at him, but doesn’t take his eyes from the road. He might have demon reflexes now, and I might be an angel, but I love that he never takes risks with my safety.

We drive for like another hour, up and up the mountains, until he takes a turn off down a dirt road. I open my mouth to ask him where the hell we are, but he shakes his head before I even say a word.

Men.

I roll my eyes, but smile with it because this is so him. Of course, he’s not giving me even the smallest hint. He pulls the truck off to the side of the road and unbuckles himself before turning to look at me. “Good thing you’ve got decent shoes on.”

I laugh at him and he grins wider. “Where the hell are we?”

“You’ll see, come on, beautiful. Let’s go on an adventure.” He laughs so boyishly, so carefree, that I’m transported back to another time momentarily. A time when we didn’t have
