deserve it. Cheers.”
God, I loved my dad so freaking much.
Glasses clanked and wolf whistles filled the air as my husband held his beer up in the air toward my father, then touched it to my wine glass, and drank. I drank, too. Then he kissed me and signaled to Scott, who was over by the stage with his DJ equipment. Scott nodded and gave him a thumbs up.
Christian stood up and blew out a breath. He looked at my father and thumped his chest with his fist. Dad nodded.
Christian looked at me and reached for my hand. I took it and stood.
“I’m not much for speeches so keep that in mind here, but thank you, Deke, Deacon, Rider, and Spence for agreeing to let me be a member of this family. Thank you to this club for accepting me, for giving me a place where I’m finally no longer fighting to not belong. With the brotherhood, I do belong. Thanks to my Uncle Rob for showin’ me that where my name comes from ain’t all bad. And to my mother, I’m proud of you, ma. I know you’ve got regrets, but things turned out the way they were supposed to. And I see how strong you are. I’m proud that you didn’t let life break you. Uncle Stu, once a year wasn’t enough accordin’ to you, but trust me, sir, it was. It made a difference.” He blew out another breath. I squeezed his hand and leaned against his side. “Jonny, glad to have you in my life again, little brother.” He looked down at me. “And you…”
I smiled with tears in my eyes. “You,” he repeated. “Thank you, you stubborn, relentless, sassy woman for giving yourself to me. Baby, jellybean, you’re the best thing that’s ever happened to a dick like me. You’re the reward my Uncle Stu promised me I’d get some day for all I’d had to deal with growin’ up. You with your massive heart, how you take strays under your wing, spinnin’ wrenches and carin’ for abandoned babies. Fuck.” He shook his head. I made an ugly choking sound. His eyes looked a little glassy as he stared at me with love. “Smiling whenever you see someone happy like their happiness is something you get high off. Some people look at others gettin’ happy with envy in their eyes, but every time I see someone showin’ how happy they are, there’s my Jojo lookin’ on with joy on her face. I’m a lucky prick.”
I was now blubbering, my whole body wracked with my sobs, happy sobs as I stared into his eyes.
“I’m stoked I’ve got the best parts of my old family along with a fuckin’ great new family to move ahead with. Now… Scooter? Play it, brother.”
The music started and I immediately laughed, wiping my eyes with my fingers.
How Deep is Your Love by the Bee Gees came on and he led me to the middle of the dance floor for our wedding dance.
He held me in his arms, and we laughed against one another’s mouths as we danced.
“I can’t believe you got him to play this song. Your reputation is gonna take a hit, Superman.”
He sang to me, looking into my eyes. I sang too, more tears streaming down my face that he caught with his thumbs.
After that song, the music got cranked and there were a whole lot of people up dancing. It turned into a great party. I danced my ass off with the girls and laughed with all our friends.
Because I wasn’t pregnant, I drank my face off and got shitfaced. Christian had to carry me to bed at the end of the night because I passed out on his lap in the lounge where everyone hung out after the party dispersed.
“Oh. We’re in bed,” I slurred. “You gonna fuck me in this dress?”
“You’re awake. Good. Thought I’d have to either pour coffee down your gullet or play with this hot body until I woke you.”
I sat up and scooted down to the foot of the bed and let my legs dangle on either side of him. He took off his leather and his shirt and threw them on the chair in the corner.
“Yuss. Play away, baby. I just lad a hiddle nap. Had a niddle lap. Ha ha ha. Gonna fuck me?”
“Sure as fuck am,” he told me. And he sounded a little slurry too.
“I love you,” I told him. “Take off mah shoe?” I lifted my leg.
“Fuck, no.
