returns the gesture, dropping a kiss on my forehead as he’s done from the beginning.

“Are you sure I shouldn’t be nervous about meeting them?” I ask as I stare at my reflection in the mirror, placing long dangling sterling silver hoops in my ears. Everything I have on had been placed in Maddox’s bathroom, and everything had been new. I didn’t need a five hundred dollar dress, but with the tags still on, I can’t deny how beautiful it is. It’s a deep purple with a low neckline and an open back, fitting tight at my waist and hips. I’m unable to take my eyes off it.

The Jimmy Choos are a pair of shoes I never thought I’d own, and when I put on the high-end makeup I’ve never heard of, he leans in, placing something on me. “Will you wear my collar?”

I admire the delicate sterling silver as he wraps it around my neck and he has a lock in his hand. “This tells everyone you belong to me, but it’s also very discreet.” I can’t see the lock, and with a small smirk, he lifts the charm that falls from the middle and rests at the same level as my collarbone.

“Behind the jewel, my sweet Jewel, is the lock, and only I have the key.” He turns me around, and the precious gem is beautiful as is the entire necklace. It’s the same shade of purple as my dress.

“Fuck, you’re beautiful with my collar around your delicate neck. And you’ll get one for the club, later.”

He turns me around, placing a chaste kiss on my lips. “And, tonight, I make you mine in every way.”

The drive from his upscale condominium to the Space Needle is short, especially with his touch on my entire body. “I’ve shown the most restraint I can, and if we make it to the club without me fucking your brains out, I’ll be surprised.”

At this point, I’m glad he’s allowed me to wear a thong because it’s the only thing that sops up my wetness at his words.

“Stay put, precious,” he commands, and I begin to pinch myself at this dream. Not the riches. I know Maddox isn’t hurting for money, but I’ve never needed this—the pretty dresses, the cars, or even a meal at the top of the Space Needle. All I’ve ever wanted is someone to love me like he does. We may not have said the words, but all of this is the beginning of love.

He extends his hand to mine and pulls me out. As I hold my hand in his, we make it to the Needle, a good five-minute walk from his car as he tucks his hand in his suit jacket. “Ah, shit, sweetheart, I forgot something in the Camaro.” It’s still light out near the entrance of the Needle. “Okay, don’t move. The rest of the boys should be here soon, sweetheart.”

Everything he does for me is for my protection, and I trust him without question. My little clutch only houses my new cell phone. I pull it out, so happy to have a new phone, and only a small amount of people Maddox have approved can get ahold of me.

I can feel the sides of my lips turn up as I look at my only text from one of my favorite people in the world.

Tori: Hey, babe! I just wanted to check in with you to see how Mr. Hot and Demanding is. When can I stop by and see your new digs? I head out to Oregon next week.

I’ve been so involved in my life, I’d forgotten it’s only a week before she moves out of state for college. I add it to my reminders to chat with Maddox about this, but he’d been so indebted to Tori and her family for how they’d cared for me that I know he’d never deny me seeing my best friend.

I continue reading the text.

By the way, your dad has been over here every day, demanding to know where you are. My mom said she’d pass the message onto you, and he so eloquently blames me and how I’ve always been a bad influence on you. He also told them they’d never be welcomed back in his church.

“Oh, Holy Mary and Joseph,” I say out loud, continuing the text.

So my mom told him if he’d loosened up a little, things would have been different. He didn’t like that, then my dad got involved. It wasn’t pretty. But I
