Baby Got Bear - Milly Taiden Page 0,24
until her teeth rattled in her head, she hung like a ragdoll with no hope of escape. Tearing at the fur covering his hand, blood from her broken nails wetting her palms, Lucy gasped for air. Black spots clouded her vision and tears he forced her to cry rolled down her face as Terrance’s grip grew tighter and tighter.
The eyes of his wolf, red and full of hate, illuminated the true depths of his insanity as he pulled her face to his and spat through gritted teeth, “If I can’t have you, then you will die, bitch.”
Tighter still, the bones in her neck cracking as he lost all control, Terrance ground his lips to hers, forcing his long, leathery tongue through her lips. Mustering the last traces of strength, Lucy bit down as hard and fast as she could.
Once again flying through the air, she grinned from ear-to-ear as she spat out more than half of the asshole’s tongue. Laughing out loud when her back smashed into the against the stone wall, and Terrance howled like a scalded dog, she rasped, “That’s what happens when you fuck with Beau Sampson’s mate, asshole.”
And, with that, Lucy passed out.
Chapter Fifteen
Pushing through every emotion, all Beau’s rage and fear, his bear forced himself to the forefront. Caught up in a tidal wave of power and magic unlike anything he’d ever felt, the alpha was thrown into a mind-numbing shift.
Feeling as if his skin was being flayed from the bone, sucking at the air, knowing what was coming but in no way prepared, he forced his eyes open just as Jack, Timothy, and Alex arrived.
“What the fuck?” Timothy gawked. “Is that…”
“You know it,” Jack confirmed. “We got us a full-on alpha warrior.”
“Warrior, as in dispenses justice and kicks ass like no other?” Alex gaped.
“Yep, that about sums it up,” Jack chuckled as he pointed at Beau. “This is what happens when an alpha bear’s mate is in danger.” Nodding, he went on. “Or the clan needs defending against unnatural and unwanted forces.
Circling Beau, Timothy, one of the youngest betas of the clan, remarked, “My grandpa told me stories about the special powers of an alpha like you, boss. But, shit, I never imagined anything like this.” Laughing out loud, he teased, “I actually thought the old guy was nuts. Sounded like something out of a comic book.”
“I mean, come on.” The young bear’s voice was full of wonder and more than a little schoolboy excitement. “Who the hell would ever believe that the goddess would pick one alpha bear—not one per clan, or state, or country—but only one out of every single bear shifter all over the universe to bestow the wonder and majesty of this much muscle?”
Stepping closer, he shook his head as if attempting to make sure he wasn’t dreaming. Throwing both his hands out in front, pointing at Beau with both his index fingers, Timothy cleared his throat. “This is fucking awesome. Our leader’s like—like inde-fucking-structible.” Another step forward, his eyes so wide they looked like one of Amelia’s dolls from when she was little, and the young bear blew out a long breath.
Beau frowned. “Shut up already.”
Arms spread out as wide as they would go, he popped Alex, his younger brother, in the shoulder. “Look at that, bro. It’s just like Pawpaw said. Beau grew two extra feet, and don’t get me started about those paws.”
Beau rolled his eyes and shook his head. “Would you stop it. You sound like you’ve never seen me before. Quit it.”
“Shut. Up. Tim.” Alex and Jack growled in unison as visions of Lucy filled Beau’s mind. His claws lengthened, and his paws curled, mimicking the actions of his human hands as they reached for his mate. Then it hit—pain unlike anything he’d ever felt. It gnawed at his gut as fire tore through his veins. It wasn’t his to possess, all he had to do was survive.
Nearly dropping to the ground as memories of Lucy’s abduction flashed into his mind, Beau threw back his head and bellowed. Unable to resist the call of their leader, their need to protect one of their own just as strong as his, all three betas answered Beau’s call, the evening sky coming alive with their deep rumbling bellows.
Sliding in from around the barn, Amelia whooped, “Hell, yeah, let’s do this.”
“No!” Beau shot his edict straight into his sister’s mind.
“You are not leaving me behind. Lucy’s my sister.” Throwing her hands out in front and shaking her head, she
