want to make you sigh my name in that sweet tone you use when you’re happy for one of your sisters. I want to bring you to my home and worship that sexy little body of yours until you beg me to stop. But more than anything I want to bring you home to mi madre and see her light up at meeting the woman I have chosen for my own.”
His words were everything I wanted to hear, but also despised with every fiber of my being. It was exactly why I avoided insanely hot Mexican-American guys. In my personal experience, when they saw what they wanted, they were all in. They’d stop at nothing to achieve their goal, and I didn’t like feeling like a prize to be won. I wanted a man who would go all-in as partners with me. Two halves of a whole. Not one person lording his strength and power over the other.
I wanted what my sister Simone had with Jonah. What Addison had with Killian.
Once again I spun around. “You are blind and deaf if you think you’re going to get any of that from me. You are barking up the wrong tree, mister!” I pointed at his chest, hitting nothing but steely muscle. The man was in insane shape. Probably worked out as much as I downed ice cream, which is why even though I was petite, I still had a big booty.
He grabbed my hand and lifted it to his smiling lips. He nibbled teasingly, his touch achingly seductive, at my finger. My gaze zeroed in on his and I gasped at the fire I saw swirling in those endless depths.
“You will be mine one day, Liliana. Stop fighting it and enjoy what’s burning just under the surface between us.” His words were direct, straight to the point, and filled with desire. A desire I wanted nothing more than to succumb to. But it wouldn’t work. I wasn’t the woman he wanted. I’d never bow down to him. Never serve in a stereotypical role that I was certain he was used to.
“I’m not the woman for you,” I whispered.
“You’re exactly the woman for me. And I’m going to stop at nothing until you feel it too.”
I closed my eyes and was just about to rebuff him again when a series of gunshots rang out.
Both of us twisted around, him hooking his arm around my form until I was pushed behind his back. His body serving as a shield.
I peeked around his massive back and saw four masked men enter the building with ginormous guns. Bigger than anything I’d ever seen in real life.
People screamed in terror. Chills raced down my spine and out every nerve ending as the reality of what was happening filtered through my brain.
The bank was being robbed.
I looked at the floor near the entrance to the bank where the men had entered and were currently fanning out. A large white man in a security uniform with blood soaking the front of his chest was down, bleeding out on the white marble floor. He wasn’t breathing.
“Nobody move! Everyone, face to the ground. NOW! Or you die just like him,” one of the masked men commanded in a no-nonsense tone.
