of girls peeked at us taking off and I’m sure they guessed why.

Jaxson set me on Sofia’s bed and climbed on top of me. I draped my arms around his shoulders, sinking into the heady haze of Jaxson Van Zandt.

“Three weeks ends now,” he whispered, voice husky.

I shivered. Three weeks since we’d made love. It hardly seemed possible. We let our lives get so busy.

“Promise me it won’t be like this anymore.” I kissed him softly. “I’ve missed you.”

“I promise.” Jaxson’s gemstone eyes caressed my face and I could almost hear him think how beautiful I was. It’s what I loved about him. His eyes said more than his words, and I could read it all. “Tomorrow, I’m bringing you to the studio. I believe we have a date.”

“Fooling around in your father’s office,” I said, grinning. “You pull out all the stops. Careful or a girl will get spoiled.”

“Nothing’s too good for my baby.”

The room was filled with our giggling, heated whispers, and hushed moans. Our plans for a romantic dinner and candlelit end to our dry spell in his bed were quickly forgotten.

“Val, you in there?”

I froze. Jaxson didn’t. He carried on sucking the little bundle of nerves between my legs.

“The meeting is starting,” Blair said. “Everyone has to be there.”

“C-coming,” I called.

Jaxson shot me a wicked grin. “Not yet.”

“Jaxson, we have to go.” I tried scrambling away and he secured my legs. Jaxson wore me like a beard.

“Where do you think you’re going?”

“Baby,” I cried, going for stern and ruining it with a laugh. “We’ll pick this up tonight.”

“What are we going to pick up? This.” His tongue slipped past my folds.

I bit my lip hard. If Blair was still on the other side of that door, I did not need her hearing what was going on.

“Okay. Make it quick.”

“I don’t do quick.”

“Jaxson!” I was definitely laughing that time. “Will you work with me here?”

“I am.” Lowering his head, his tongue darted in and out of me, unraveling my resolve thread by thread. Pleasure rippled through my body, beginning in my lower belly, and spreading to infuse every cell of my being. His determination to torture me didn’t work out like he planned. I was so starved for him, I came within minutes, body writhing into the pillows.

We made ourselves presentable and went downstairs. Jaxson veered off to the living room with Hudson and I headed for the dining room.

“Welcome, ladies.” A woman I’d never seen before stood at the head of the table, motioning for us to take a seat. Sofia pulled out the chair next to her. I sat, studying our guest.

She was older, possibly mid-forties. She wore a classy, elegant air of wealth and status, a fact I knew from my new life in Evergreen. Her pantsuit and blouse were fitted and expensive. The shimmering pearls at her throat a stylish tie-in to the cream outfit. But the most telling feature was the massive diamond ring on her finger.

“Good afternoon, girls,” she began. “My name is Ophelia Kessler. I’m the founder of Kessler’s Kinder Toys.”

That name was familiar. Adam rode through the house in his Kessler car almost every day.

“I’m also the head of the local organization of Zeta Rho Sigma.” She swept her smile over us. Ophelia was quite lovely. Streaks of gray touched her brunette hair that she accentuated instead of trying to hide. A strong dusting of freckles graced her cheeks and upturned nose.

“As you’re aware,” she said, “Zeta Rho Sigma and Nu Alpha Theta are not like the other Greek houses on this campus. They were formed within this school in tribute to Sally Hollenbeck, and therefore are not governed by a national organization. Instead a local organization was formed to handle big-picture details.” She gestured at herself. “I’m here to step in if there are problems, but my main function has been keeping in touch with alumni and organizing alumni events. The late and wonderful Leighton Lewis handled everything else, so there wasn’t need for me to do more. She will be missed.”

I’m sure wherever she is, she’d be touched to hear it.

“Today, I’d like to start the process of electing a new president and vice president. I aim to keep this simple and democratic. In a week’s time, we’ll return here and you all will cast your vote for your choices. First things to note are you cannot join executive roles as a pledge or freshman. A fact that won’t hinder us as we’re suspending the intake of
